rotten_two Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 yes the latest in my stupid people series (only this time it might even apply to me  ). once again we are at the vet after getting aspen his acupuncture. so the office is in a cluster of glass front buildings which include a post office and a restaurant of some type. as my fiance is paying, aspen is at the window sitting quietly looking out. this man walks by, stops, comes back and admires aspen. finally he comes inside. in his hand (at doggie nose level) are a kit kat bar and a doggie bag container from the restaurant. as he proceeds to wave this take out container in aspen's face he says 'oh he probably smells my meat, can he have meat?' to which i reply 'well what kind of meat?' he says it is beef and for some reason that registers in my brain as probably a burger. so i say to the dude 'he can have a small piece and he has to do a trick for it!' before i even get those words out the guy has unwrapped and fed aspen a 6oz piece of filet mignon :o ! wait! i didn't see a trick! the only trick aspen did was the snatch and swallow and he was able to do that because this guy unwrapped the steak right in his face! ackkk! chalk one for aspen! i realize now i should have just suggested the guy give aspen one of our treats -- altho aspen was all too happy! not every joe schmoe would give up his filet for a cute pup. i couldn't tear aspen away from the window after that -- he was trying to lure them in with cuteness! Seijun Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 He's lucky it wasn't my dog. Shilo would have taken the entire bag before he even had a chance to open it, and perhaps a couple of the guys fingers with it. (she likes food... a lot) ~Seij Quote
Queen Bitch Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 At least he didn't come in to lecture you about your killer "rockwilder". See there is a silver lining. Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 I would be so worried about that! I would get things in my mind that I dont even want to write because Im afraid they might worry you... But, anywayz, thats really funny! Quote

courtnek Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 the guy was probably harmless, but I wouldnt make a habit of letting a stranger give your dog food. there's too many weirdo's in the world....and some of them dont like your type of dog. do I sound paranoid? yes, I am about people who offer my dogs food. I would simply say "I dont allow them to take food from anybody. sorry. dont want to start a bad habit..." and then just talk to the guy. :D Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted September 20, 2004 Posted September 20, 2004 Courtnek, I'm guilty of that with mine, but I didn't want to sound overtly paranoid (which I'm accused of alllllll the time). The lady at the bank is downright offended that I won't let her give my dogs biscuits anymore. I always decline politely by saying something about my dogs having allergies and being on a very restricted diet (well, true for Devin, but applies to all when convenient). Then again, they give out Ol' Roy biscuits, but I just don't have the heart to say, "sorry, but you have crap for snacks." Quote
imported_Debbie Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 That is a cute story !!! And luckily the guy was a "nice" guy !! But......hate to be a party pooper :drinking: , I agree with court. I'd be too paranoid to let a stranger give my dog a piece of meat. The person could've been a nut job, with poison laced meat. You can never be too sure these days !! :( Quote
courtnek Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 Then again, they give out Ol' Roy biscuits, but I just don't have the heart to say, "sorry, but you have crap for snacks." probably NOT the most politically correct statement....      I know I'm probably overcautious, but I know people who have had their dogs poisoned. I'm just not willing to take the chance. Mine are probably on the bottom of anyones poisoning list (A lab and a foxhound, not exactly contentious animals) but a Rott I would be extra careful with. Theres a lot of weird, nasty people out there... 8) Quote
IYPChrissie Posted September 21, 2004 Posted September 21, 2004 I am over cautious too, you really have to be these days. I know not everyone is out to harm us but there is no way to tell the darn difference, unfortunately! Too many crazies in the world ;) Quote
