Zoey for the last week has done nothing but lick her slef, bite and scratch. We've given her a bath she has no fleas on her and we are about to lose our mind. she does it alllllllll night and allllll day and it keeps me up, so i put her in her kennel and then she barks to get out so then i muzzle her and she STILL finds way to li ck her self.
Any idea's on what i can do to help with the itching?

hmmmmmm so there doesnt seem to be anything obvious causing it? I think I would try an oatmeal or other anti itch bath - if that doesnt help and its real bad i would give a benadryl (maybe she got a bite somewhere that is causing an all over itch reaction) ofcourse you could always do the bitter apple stuff, but if its jsut started I would think it would be better to try to find the cause or atleast give a medicine first to stop the itching :-?
sorry - Im probably not much help  good luck!

DAL,
Sorry, but I'm new here so I don't know how old Zoey is.....

Is she creating open sores or pulling fur out? Is she scracthing so hard that she is whimpering?

The oatmeal bath and bennedryl are great for quick fixes. But if it is something other than a bite/sting or topical, then it will just come back.

I have a VERY allergic cat. He is allergic to most tree pollen, ragweed, and other grasses, 4 types of molds, and my dogs. YES!! He IS allergic to dog dander. We tried many food switches (he is currently on Wysong) and ended up with a Dermatologist who ran allergy tests and he now gets injections. We have only begun with him (about a month now). But he will tear himself up. Huge open wounds that require him to be on antibiotics and oral estrogen (it prevents him from scratching, kinda like a steroid). The longer he is on his shots the more we can wean him off the estrogen.

Dogs can develop allergies to what is in their food out of the blue. So I am not sure what you are feeding or of you are doing BARF. A dog can be on one food for months or years and suddenly have an allergy to it. Mostly the corn, wheat, and soy, but you probably knew that.

I hope some of this helps. Please feel free to ask me anything! I have been to the Dermatologist so many times I feel as if I could work with him...and the human medical background doesn't hurt, either!

I too would say allergies. especially at this time of year. I know MINE are a nightmare, and I had a dog that was allergic to something in the grass in my lawn every fall, and would tear his feet open. only in the fall. they gave him atarax for it, which is a human anti-allergy medicine (hives related) and it worked great. He only needed to take it til the first frost. Maybe get the vet to do an allergy test is in order....

You could try giving her 3V caps. They can be found at Drs Foster and Smith for about 8-10 dollars. Omega 3 & 6 are natural antihistamines plus it will help dry skin too. I have had great success with them. 2 a day for the first month, then 1 day per my vet.
