Missy threw up her dinner last night, so this morning I gave her some boiled hamburg and rice and she threw that up. I then read where you should not feed them for 24 hrs to let their stomache settle down and give them Pepto and then start them on hamburg and rice.

She just threw up a little bile a short time ago. Her stool was fine this morning and she is drinking water. She even was playful this afternoon.

Missy is a 10 lb shih tzu. How much pepto and how often should I give it to her?

I would recomend taking Missy to see her vet just to be on the safe side, after all vomiting is only the symptom of the actual problem. Something like vomiting can be an indication of a whole mess of different things, some of them minor like an upset stomache, and some of them life-threatening like ingesting poisons.

If you're going to feed her don't use hamburger, it's too fatty/rich and will likely upset her stomache further. Use a little bit of boiled chicken breast instead, and perhaps instead of rice you could mix it with boiled pasta (some doctors say that it's a bit more digestible than rice). As far as the pepto goes, I've heard of it used before, but I'd consult with your vet first.

Again, I wouldn't hesitate to call your vet, especially sice Missy vomited twice promptly after eating.

really???

I have had vets suggest i give a dog Pepto! what are the counter-indications? Actually, I shouldnt be surprised. I've had vets tell me buffered aspirin is ok, and it turns out its not for some dogs....

Well, I gave her some Friday night and Sat morning. She vomited a little Sat morning but she ate and didn't get sick Sat night or since.

Guess it was just a little stomache bug. She's back to little fiesty self. :)
