There are no free dogs. Even if you get one for nothing, it will need shots, spaying or neutering, heartworm tests and preventatives, leashes, toys, a crate, a bed, food. All this adds up to QUITE a bit of money - MUCH more than if you pay a 200$ adoption fee to a rescue and get a dog that is already spayed, has shots, been heartworm tested, etc.

Dogs are expensive. What if you get a free dog and it needs surgery or expensive treatments? Are your parents going to pay for it? This is a 10 - 15 year committment.

I agree. If you adopt from a shelter (check Petfinder. you can specify a breed in there and it beings up a whole list of available dogs with pictures and personality profiles) you will stay have to pay the adoptio fees. at least though the dog has been checked out by a vet, usually fixed, and his personality has been tested and approved. If your parents approve this, they must understand that the dog will need shots every year, health checks, food, toys, etc. good luck.

It sounds like your parents do not want to be bothered with having to pay for a dog, which also means they probably do not want a lot of other hassels that come with dog ownership.

For this reason you should not get another dog until they are ready to accept the responsibilities (financial and otherwise) of a new dog.

Please, I BEG of you not to get a Siberian Husky unless you have done your homework on the breed!!
I do Siberian rescue, and I have more purebred Sibes then I know what to do with right now, because of people who don't think it through.
They shed like monsters all year round, are destructive when bored, need tremendous amounts of excercise, obedience training is a must, and they can NEVER be let off leash. Think you can handle all that?

I agree with everyones post so far. If you don't have the money to spend on adopting then what about the shots, vet trips, flea meds ect. There are many rescues in the so. cal area, why not apply to volenteer. That way you can be around dogs but not have to worry about money.
