You could adopt one. I adopted my Husky mix for only $100 and she came spayed and UTD on shots. Be careful when getting a husky or malamute. They are high energy, they will need a fenced in yard because they like to roam. They can also be good escape artists, so it will have to be a tall fence (I would suggest a fence that is at LEAST 6', you may even want to put lean-ins on top because nothern breeds can climb fences too), and maybe even make the fence dig proof, depending on how much of an escape artist the pup grows up to be (my cousins has a husky that ATE through the fence!). They often times do not make good house pets either. If you do not have a fenced in yard, a secure kennel will do, but the dog will have to be walked frequently. Huskies/mals are also known for having high prey drive and they can be difficult to train (they are very stubborn, they won't listen to a command unless they want to). They need a lot of socialization and they really aren't for someone who is just a beginning dog owner. I would suggest doing some research on the breed before getting one. They can be very difficult dogs to keep.

What sort of containment do you have for a husky/mal? These guys aren't just hyper for a few years, they are hyper for life. They were bred to run and roam, and that's just what they'll do without good containment to keep them in. They can climb a fence like a cat (at least huskies can) and they love to 'talk' and howl. Be sure your parents are well educated on the temperment and keeping of a northern breed before getting one. They are very independant dogs, so don't expect it to grow up acting like a carbon-copy of Lassie.

Listen to what they are saying about Huskies!

I fostered one for three months and while she was a really great dog I had issues with her being strong willed. It was often a battle of the wills around here.

Syia was a beautiful bi eyed girl and she would stare at me with that one blue eye and I swear she got into my brain staring at me.

The down side...she loved to run...thankfully she never tried to escape but I also never gave her a chance.

Another down side...cats...she loved to chase them. She didn't know what to do with them when she caught them so they ended pinned under her paws. It took me the entire time to teach her to LEAVE IT! Thankfully she was the only animal in her new home.

Oh another down side...the ROO ROO WOO WOOO...Talking!

I'd be on the phone with a friend and she'd come up, put her paw on me and if I didn't give her waht she wanted she started talking...Loudly!

Oh and the one time I left her out of her crate but off in a room by herself...she TORE up my door and wall...I was gone for 20 minutes!

Huskies aren't for everyone...espeically someone who isn't able/willing to dedicate the time to training them.

My Syia has left me with a spot in my heart for Huskies and I might in about 10 more years get one....but Honestly as a mom....I would think long and hard before buying my kids one to have as their dog and have primary responsibility for. They are not good beinner dogs.
