Guest Anonymous Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Okay so you all know I let Ariel go this past monday. Well just after Teresa posted I was starting my response to her and looked over at Belle (you know that mom feeling when something is wrong!) in her crate and she looks like she is squating since James was closer to her I asked him to let her out so I could go outside with her. Well damn it all to hell! She came out of her crate, ran into the play pen, ran into the dresser made it out of the door straight into a wall and then made it to the back yard (hubby had the door open) all before I could yell that something was wrong! She started trying to run around the yard and fell...hubby ran for her I ran for the phone. I called mom (My personal expert in seizures). Damn it all to hell Jeremy brought her in and I sat down with her and she started getting really stiff the back legs paddled and the Beagle tail curled! Her tail NEVER curls! From start of Paddling to end of paddling was less than 3 minutes. From the start of the episode until the end was more than 15. She is in her crate with a baby bumper around the sides and sheet under her. She is now sitting up and seems to be okay. I shot an email to one of the vet techs and I'm waiting to hear if I should take her in tomorrow or not. Knowing my vet he will want me to keep a log for a few days to note any more and to keep track of every little thing she eats. Damn it all to hell again! I thought I was loosing my girl and got yelled at by my mom for crying and not being very clear! Quote
courtnek Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 prayers to you. HOPEFULLY it is nothing. some dogs act weird when a dog friend goes. they know so much more then we DO...' Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Geez, when it rains, it pours, huh? :( It will be good to hear what the vet says. I've had a couple of seizure dogs and, like you mentioned, usually the first thing was to document everything. Severity, duration, that sort of thing. Some seizures were just mild head bobbing that many people probably wouldn't notice and some were the holy moly flailing about that most people think of with seizures. It's important to document anything out of the ordinary like head bobbing, blank stares, stiff leggedness and really anything that doesn't seem normal. Many times, you'll notice behaviors or movements that indicate a bigger seizure is on its way. I really hope this is an isolated incident. I've seen some dogs that have seizures very, very infrequently and they are usually not medicated for them. My vet usually prefers to medicate only once it's a pretty regular thing. One of the dogs I fostered that had seizures was actually hypoglycemic. Once he went on a schedule of eating several small meals a day, his seizures didn't go entirely away, but they certainly were decreased to where he didn't require meds anymore. Just something to consider. Sometimes you can find an easy solution and often there is no solution. Let us know what the vet says. I'm really hoping it's just an isolated incident. I hate that you're having to deal with so much all at once. :( Quote

xavierandrea Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 Oh Tammy you need a big hug! I hope everything is ok. Any news yet??? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 She is doing great right now. She has the crazy kitten named Cane penned under the Play pen and they are playing...at least trying to. Cane likes to growl while playing and well AJ thinks Belle is hurting him. She was sluggish last night but this morning the only way you would know something happned is by the fact taht everytime I hear a noise that just isn't quite right in her playing I'm jumping up to check. I hope this was a one time incident. If not hubby and will figure out what to do. If she has only say one every 30 days or so we won't medicate until they become more frequent. I have to wait for my vet to open at 11 (he stays open until 7 pm! Which works good for me) and see what he wants to do. I have got to get this job on Monday! I have to start being able to pay my vet back more than I am now. Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted August 12, 2004 Posted August 12, 2004 one of my sons had seizures as a child he grew out of them by the time he was fourteen..... at times of dissapointment or any upset he could have one... maybe Belle is the same she will have picked up on all that has happened this week it is hard for her too Quote
