Hi - I am a big dog lover, and just discovered this site. I am concerned about one of my dogs - Mozart. He has had a small cyst on his head for the past couple of years that my vet says is not harmful. However, he just sprouted a new one recently - it is very enlongated, almost pointy. His brother absolutely hates it, and it constantly licking at it. (They have an uncanny way of finding wounds, ticks, etc. on each other.) Today it was bleeding a bit, most likely from the brother picking at it. I am going to make an appointment with the vet, but am curious if anyone else has come across anything like this? Thanks for any advice you have to offer. Mozart is my absolute best friend, and I want to help him out however I can. (He is a 9 year old shar pei/ lab mix.)

My dog has a lump right between his eyes. Usually if it doesnt go away after a couple of months, then the vet will take a closer look, maybe do a biopsy, to make sure it is a cyst and not a cancerous tumor. They seem to come and go on my dogs. I have had one on my back for 3 years and now i have one on my wrist-had it for about a year now. Mine need to be surgically removed or else i can just live with them, which is what i have been doing. Well, i never had one on my dogs last for years. Hope your dog is ok! Let us know.

If anyone is curious, the vet said that these cysts are not harmful. They can be removed if you want, or they can be left alone. Since the one larger cyst was bleeding a bit, he actually scraped it off with his fingernail. (Very gross! Like a big wart underneath!) He said not to try doing that unless it was bleeding or oozing, as otherwise it can rupture under the skin inside. My other dog still absolutely hates the cysts, and is constantly following Mozart around and licking at his head, so I do think I will have them removed at some point. Thanks for your replies!
