coastie_wife Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 Recently our family moved to a neighborhood where we are not allowed to have physical fences--not our ideal but unfortunately the best choice for the entire family. I have read positive and not so positive things on invisible fences, but since we don't know anyone with one, I thought this might be a good area to present it==has anyone on here used the invisible fence and if so, had positive or negative results? I'll be honest, I really don't care to hear negative responses from people who have not used it. I have read the negative and I am aware of the websites putting this system down. I am interested with direct contact with this system. Quote
imported_Debbie Posted July 10, 2004 Posted July 10, 2004 I talked to an Invisible Fence Rep before about having one installed. They do the boundary training with you and they do guarantee your money back within the first year if it doesn't work for your dog. I personally decided against it because of the 1st thing Divine said......does not keep other dogs/people out of the yard. So that essentially means your dog is still at risk from outsiders. :x Plus, my Jacks are so prey driven...if they were after a squirrel or something...they'd take the shock. :o Quote
pLaurent Posted July 11, 2004 Posted July 11, 2004 One of my neighbours had this fence for her two Goldens. One of them was fine with it, but the other went through it regularly, as though it wasn't there. I was always finding him on the street and bringing him home. This dog, Elvis, seemed to ENJOY the shocks and would stand right on the fence line with a goofy grin on his face. Another neighbour has it for her GSD. This dog puts up terrifying displays of aggression while behind it, to such a degree that I am afraid to walk my dog past that house anymore, for fear he will come through it. :o As stated, it depends on breed and personality. I would'nt recommend it for dogs like huskies or some kinds of hounds or other dogs with high prey drive. They might be willing to ignore the shock if there is something outside the fence they want badly enough. Also it's not safe to leave a dog alone behind this fence. Recently 3 huge dogs in my area were out milling around in the middle of a busy two-lane road. They are left inside the invisble fence while the owners work, and the electricity had gone off! Quote
coastie_wife Posted July 12, 2004 Author Posted July 12, 2004 Sorry for the late reply--just moved in so LOTS of box moving, lol. Our dogs are a 1 yr old beagle/terrier mix and an almost 1 yr old chihuahua mix. BOTH chase birds, cats and bunnies. *BUT* in general, an area such as our neighborhood doesn't have a lot of problems with other dogs, people since it's a secured neighborhood. We do intend on training long before the dogs have the chance to find out there is a punishment for passing the signs. Quote
