Guest Anonymous Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 I've had Gretchen (ACD) since last August when she was 9 months old. She is in a crate that is just large enough for her to stand up and turn around in. I thought this would be the perfect size for her and to crate train her. She has good days and bad days. Some days she is floating in her kennel others it's bone dry. Anyone have any advice for her to be consistant? It has happened every day this week and even with daily baths her white has turned a dingy color. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 dont give her water in her crate and start out putting her in there for a few mins, then out to go potty, and just work up the time that she is in there and then as soon as she is out, go potty, figure out how long she can hold it, if you can get her on a schedual it should help alot!! mine have been in their crates upto 10 hours 1 day ( when i was at the hosp ) with no accidents, but we always have put them in,a dn then waiter a while, taken them out to go potty.. just kinda like potty training all over again good luck! Guest Anonymous Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 She already doesn't get water in her crate. This morning hubby took her out at 6, I took her out at 7, 9 and 12 (Then the neighbor kids came over and they are afraid of her because she bounces so much). Each time the crate was wet. After the 7 o'clock time I didn't let her drink outside and it's still happening. I quit putting water in her and my Prissy's cage after the 10th metal bracket they each broke. What gets me is I've had her out with me tied to my waist all day at times and she hasn't even asked to go out much less had an accident. I'm guessing the "Rescue" she used to be with allowed this behavior because they had her for a month before I got her and every dog I ever got from them instead of taking straight from the vet had a problem crate training. This one however is the FIRST not to get it after all this time. I've got one cage that is a slightly bit smaller than the one she is in now I'm considering putting her in. Thanks if the neighbor brats aren't here tomorrow I'll work with her in shorter time frames. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 9, 2004 Posted July 9, 2004 Thank you Mei. I have tried the baby gates (going as far as installing a section of 4 foot picket fence) and Gretchen can clear it easily. This is the dog who thinks jumping on to the kids slide is great fun. I'm going to move her to the slightly smaller crate and just start all over again getting her out on a schedule . I'm just afraid of what is going to happen when I go back to work. Poor girl is going to go nuts. Quote
