Guest Anonymous Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Okay, we'd been working on this one for some time, but I wasn't quite getting it through his thick skull, I mean, smart brain  I've been trying to teach Coal to find my remote control for me, I lose it like you wouldn't believe. So tonight I got thinking, he's not quite assosiating the remote with something good ya know? Like he knows if he grabs it then he gets a cookie, but not quite on the finding it and the bringing it to me. SO, I took the back of it off where the batteries are, and took them out, and put a cookie in it! Well once he figured out that only I have the power to release the cookie from it he sure did catch on fast   Now I'm hoping he'll still bring it back once I stop putting cookies in it, cuz as much as I wish they did, cookies just don't power the thing to work on the TV   Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 THATS AWESOME!!! :D Geez you think like I do lol. I want to train my dog (when I get one) to turn the computer on for me. I plan on doin so by putting peanut butter on the button to turn it on and repeating computer to the dog and using a clicker to let her know she doing it right. I know Im weird but I have all these big plans to train my dog to do stuff like that. Hmmm... open the fridge, turn on computer, and Ill have to add find the remote to my list. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Thanks Mouse! :D He's TOO smart for his own good sometimes  Crazy- Well the computer I can do myself  I'd rather not have dog drool get into my computer :o But I taught my last dog to go get me a drink from the fridge :P And I tried teaching Coal, but he stood there with his head cocked to one side waging his tail like "Yes... that is a towel. If you take it OFF the fridge handle, THEN I will pull on it, but only because I want to play tug with YOU, not the fridge"  The second my hand wasn't touching the towel, he let go. Just needs more practice I think :P Word of causion for that trick, ONLY teach the dog how to open it by tying something to the handle for him/her to pull. Otherwise, you will have to baracade (if you don' thave a kitchen door) the kitchen when you can't supervise the dog    I would LOVE to teach Coal a whole bunch of neat tricks along with a SOLID good behavior and Basic Obediance and start taking him to like, elementary schools and stuff to preform with him, and teach the kids about owning a dog and how much work has to go into it to get good results  But for now, we just have fun doing silly tricks and his OB around the house :D Quote
kendalyn Posted July 7, 2004 Posted July 7, 2004 Good job Shara! :P Does Coal sort of pounce on the remote when he goes to get it? I just taught Buck how to bring me my cell phone when it's ringing, but the problem is he's a little too rough with it! He likes to pounce on it when he grabs it and I'm afraid he's going to break it! So I might be untraining this trick really fast. Did you have to teach Coal how to pick up the remote gently? If so, how did you do it? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 Nope actually, he takes it really gently, in fact too gently, he drops it a lot  Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted July 8, 2004 Posted July 8, 2004 That's pretty innovative. How neat that Coal caught on to what to do. If I tried that with any of my misfits, I would have one very chewed up remote in no time. :-? Quote
