on "Miniture Shelties" as in enough information to present to my parents to try and change their mind on getting one. Not that I don't have enough ammo already considering a couple of months ago they gave up one of their dogs because they one had time for two...so they only have two and are looking again for a 3rd.

ARGHHHH...Info please

I could only find this on the AKC website, there's no mention of miniatures being a no go, but maybe this will help.

Disqualifications
Heights below or above the desired size range, i.e., 13-16 inches.
Brindle color.

It's not new per se it's sort of like the whole Tea Cup thing (Which dore my mother crazy when she bred Poms). Sigh...thanks. My parents aren't interested in showing. Mom has never liked the "Horse and pony show" of conformation and her health is not good enough for obedience any longer. This is just for a pet...they will only go to back yard breeders. When I knew they were looking for a Pom the last time I hunted up a couple of breeders who were more than willing to speak to me and my parents but when I turned the information over to my mom she said thanks but no thanks we think we found one out of the paper.

UGH...>you know Genetics is a strange thing! I can't believe I'm related to them or my sister (who while I have two of my mom's dogs here I have one of my sisters....still waiting for her to dump her cat on me that cat is cool!).

Here's a "Mini Sheltie" I held over the winter for Sheltie rescue. And she was TINY. I had a Sheltie and this little girl was half his size. Teeny tiny little legs.

Perhaps you could contact a Sheltie breeder and ask them for specifics. Might want to ask how they feel about breeding for so called 'teacup' sized dogs first!
I cannot remember the source, I read somewhere that dogs bred down to be tiny had more skeletal problems as their bones are so tiny too.
Tell your folks, Shelties are SUPPOSED to be a small but robust breed of dog, the teeny tiny birdy boned ones are generally far from robust. I 'believe' they tend to be more fearful in many cases as well, probably as much due to poor breeding practices as to their size.
Wish I could be more help.

Keeping my fingers crossed!

I hit Petfinders earlier today and sent them two puppy pictures thinking it might sway them towards rescue if I showed them they could get a puppy!

Then I get an email asking me to take a look at this site:

http://home.att.net/~radandred/availabledogs.html

and to look at Fancy:

Fancy is a 2 1/2 year old tri-colored FEMALE Sheltie.
She stands about 16-16
1/2 inches tall at the shoulders, and is a bit overweight.
Fancy is now on a diet so she can regain her girlish figure.
Fancy is moderately active, but is expected to increase activity level as she loses some weight.
Fancy is great with adults, kids, dogs, and cats.
She is very laid back, but loves to be petted and to get lots of attention.
Fancy is content to just lay at your feet and be near you.
Fancy is a great young dog who would be an ideal family pet.

I'm in SHOCK! My parents who NEVER would adopt a dog much less an ADULT! MY Parents who were talking "mini" shelties! Looking at one that is at or just above standard!

They have emailed the foster mom to ask how she does with travel and is she leash trained. They do a lot of RVing so it will depend on how she will do on such trips.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

Personally I love Regan at the bottom of the page but know my parents won't go for him because he is 1) a Male and 2) a blue merle.
