Guest Anonymous Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Well, I managed to get my dogs here with me. If you saw my post below, I was in a pretty big bind, but the sale went through and we got to move in! But I'm having some trouble getting Sammi and Lucky housetrained. Lucky's problem is he wants to mark everywhere. I'm hoping that will be solved by neutering, but the first appointment the spay/neuter clinic had was July 14, so we've still got a wait on that. Sammi though, is driving me nuts! I let them out several times a day. Sometimes they go, and sometimes I can walk her around the yard for 20 minutes and she won't go. My family always had a few dogs around when I was a kid, and i don't remember any of them not at least having a tinkle when you let them out. And then today...ugh! I let them out (letting them out means Lucky goes on the chain and I hold a long leash for Sammi, I don't have a fenced area yet) and both of them did all of their business. I brought them in and came in here to go online, and about 5 minutes later, Sammi barked. I went to see what was going on, and she'd pooped on the floor! She'd just done that, outside, 5 minutes before! Sometimes they will whine and scratch at the door if they go out, but a lot of times, they just go. I'm afraid to let them out of the kitchen, because they will probably destroy my carpet! I hate keeping them in the kitchen, I want them to come into the rest of the house and be members of the family, but I can't allow that if they are going to insist on using the floor for a bathroom! I scold them and tell them they are bad when they do that, but they don't seem to care! When I came in the kitchen, Sammi was standing right by the pile, wagging her tail and smiling at me. This is getting really frustrating! They did super good for about 2 weeks, and the past few days, they've both decided that "anywhere is good!" Any pointers? Quote

Lokipups Posted July 6, 2004 Posted July 6, 2004 When an adult dog who's already housebroken starts marking in a new house, the first thing I tell the owners to do is to get a blacklight (can be purchased at novelty stores and some hardware places) and start sweeping the light at the ground. Old urine stains will show up under a blacklight, so you can go and hit those spots with an enzyme cleaner like Petzyme or Nature's Miracle. Quote
