Guest Anonymous Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Ok all, well I had me a scare last night. I notices Bell was not eating very much yesterday. I thought well she is not all that hungry. That was at lunch time. Diner time she ate even less. Then we took her outside to go potty and she had diarrhea shooting out of her. when we thought she was done we brought her back in. and she did it to more times on the wee wee pads. She was still playing and running around. A friend of mine was here and we noticed that she was twitching when she laid down on us, it was like she could not get comfortable. But for her last feeding she still did not eat... So I stayed up late last night with her to make sure that she would at least drink a little something and gave her Nutri-cal. She did go to bed great last night and then ate wonderfully this morning. Now I had used someone's suggestion about putting a little bit of milk in her food. So I was wondering if maybe it was the milk. Or if I should be worried. Other then not eating last night and the little diahrea she is fine. She did eat this morning, still waiting to see if there is more diahrea  MY POOR BABY BELL Quote
snowpaws Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Hmm, hopefully it was just a temp thing, puppies bellys can be a bit funny at first. About the milk, did you use cows milk? Because when I got Kodi as a pup I was advised to give him goats milk, as cows milk is not really good for them and can upset their tummys so it may have been that. I would keep an eye on her though, and if she is still bad I would take her to the vets just to be sure. Also, as she is a pup, has she just been wormed? Cos that can give them a little diarrhea, Kodi had a bit when he was wormed too. Hope this eases you mind a little, let us know how she is x Quote
JudyHoffman Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 Cows milk is never ever good for puppies and was probably the cause of the stomach upset. If you want to add milk, you can buy baby formula with iron or better yet powdered goats milk and add to their food. NO MORE COWS MILK unless you want the dog to get pancreatis or colitis ..... Quote
TDG Posted June 25, 2004 Posted June 25, 2004 cow's milk is not automatically going to cause pancreatitis or colitis. many dogs can tolerate it just fine. however, just like humans, dogs can be lactose intolerant, i.e. don't produce any or only insufficient amounts of lactase, the milk-digesting enzyme. it is better to use fermented dairy products such as cottage cheese or yogurt. you can dilute both with filtered water to a fluid consistency if you like. yogurt is easily mixed with water just with a spoon or fork, but cottage cheese needs to go in the blender. :) Quote
