AHHHH! LISA IS EEEVIL I tell you! EVIL!

She sent me this:

And if a rescue is not what you are looking for, I know of a couple of VERY cute little show quality babies looking for a new home....with temperaments to die for!! They are littermates to my Tidus and you can see them at
http://community-2.webtv.net/odysseykennels/Pups/
and their photo pedigree at http://www3.telus.net/public/lisamtd/piedpuppyped.html

For more information on the girls, you can contact Pat at pat4814@aol.com
They are currently in Florida but Pat will ship, Tidus had a very uneventful flight here to Alberta a few weeks ago.

Cheers
Lisa

Here, let me help you.

Impulse buying of a pup is a bad idea. Puppies are always cute, it's easy to be swayed by that. But there is a lot more to it than bringing home a cute pup! That web site didn't impress me that much, honestly.

I saw very little mention of health testing. Sure there's a comment about "healthy dogs", but anyone can say that. (at my vets, they have a client who recently bought a Golden Retriever pup from someone who heavily advertises her "healthy dogs". The GR pup has a serious heart condition.) I see some of the dogs are listed as "OFA" (though not what the rating actually was), but not all of them are even OFA'd. And there are a number more tests that should be done on an Amstaff before breeding.

There are also mentions of how Amstaffs should be able to get along, and that the dogs are always together in groups. I consider this extremely irresponsible advice. With the bully breeds, no matter how well they seem to behave, it is always a good idea to expect the worst.

The whole site is pretty thin on explaining their breeding and showing philosophy. Some of the dogs being bred are untitled, which can be okay if it's part of a well-thought out program, but there is no sign of that. Mostly, the site seems to be an advertisement for puppies for sale.

I'd give this pup a miss, and when you are ready to find a pup (assuming you can't be talked into a wonderful rescue ;) ), look around more carefully for a breeder.

Sarahstaff - This is NOT impulse buying. I know of this kennel, and Lisa, the kennel I have been on a waiting list for cuz their next litter is next year. I have been learning about AmStaff's for some time, and I KNOW the percausions to be taken  The woman of the kennel I was originally looking into has gotten a few puppies from this breeder, and I really do trust her judgement, however have already sent an e-mail to Barbarian kennels asking more questions  I'm not stupid

I want my pit bull NOW! BOO HOO!

I second that! At least you dont have to wait as long as I do! I have 4 more years of high school then college! Im guessing I will have to wait 8 years for my pittie! ...so consider yourself lucky! Oh well Im happy for you. :D

Nooo! Don't show me that!

I've given this new puppy thing a LOT of thought, and a LOT of research. It has to be a girl, and it has to be bought from a breeder. At first I REALLY wanted to rescue, and still do! But I decided for my first bully it would be best to get from a breeder. These things had to be put into concideration because I'll be a first time bully owner, plus my current dog Coal. He gets along MUCH better with females you see.

Gosh that little fella is to die for though :( So Sweet! I hope he finds a home ASAP! I know quite a few people here alone who would love to take him home though! *wink wink, nudge nudge*

While he's a wonderful boy and good for you for rescuing him, I don't get your point. A rescue as YOUR first bully might be good for you, but not for me, sorry.

Dont' worry, I won't be "impulse buying" anyway  I can't get the pup, like I had suspected. Guess I still have to wait another year. Oh well, more time to get more money for the puppsters and to prepare for her. :) Although I'm still madly in love with that little girl :( *sigh* It's like the Tydo thing... I'm still in love with that dog though, but I'm glad he found a home that works, cuz mine wouldn't have so I couldn't get him

I really don't have a problem with your buying a pup, as long as you buy from a good, responsible breeder. My Tully came from a breeder. I thought my first one was going to be from a breeder, but it didn't happen that way. I'm sure glad it didn't... Elmo is a once-in-a-lifetime dog, and my soul mate. I love my T-girl deeply, but she doesn't own my heart the way Elmo does.

My point was simply that, just because it's your first bully, doesn't mean a breeder is the best way to go. It may be the way you choose to go, and that is fine, but you could do just as well to get a rescue. It's just a matter of your personal choice.

What a beauty!!! Hazel nutmeg try to think of all the not so pleasant parts of puppyhood like the crying in the crate and having accidents on the carpet, the puppy biting, etc. Well if you anything like me it didn't stop me either I still went out and adopted Shadow. :D Were no help are we.

She is a very pretty puppy, but when the time is right then the right puppy will come your way. You have Coal to love in the meantime. Be thankful that you have a great dog to live with.

Thanks, and yer right! :D
Whenever I get a bad case of puppy feaver I go and train my Molson, he still ACTS like a puppy!  He's so much fun though, he's just a HUGE (and I mean HUGE :o ) Puppy!  8)
