perhaps you should ensure that your living conditions and parents will permit you to have a dog. Take a look at your lifestyle. I don't know what age you are but if you are at school all day your parents may not be willing to look after a pup. Just ensure that you are responsible enough to look after a dog and don't go out on a whim.

And make sure you do some research on breeds. Most larger/medium sized breeds require quite a bit of exercise and training...smaller dogs are more suited to say apartments ... and don't necessarily need as much exercise time outside as bigger dogs (this isn't always true though...I've heard that great danes make wonderful apartment dogs and jack russels need alot of exercise)..it all depends on how much time you will have with the animal...

Also are you going to adopt or buy a dog from a breeder? I personally think adopting is a better choice since alot of dogs need good homes or will otherwise be put to sleep...

Anywho :) we're always here to help

Before you get a pup make sure you'll have a forever home for her. It sounds like you may not know where you will be in a year, let alone 5 or 10 years, renting is hard with dogs and especially if the people you live with don't like dogs it can be terribly hard. Do you have a steady job? How will you pay for this dog? Where will it live, in or out doors? Where will it go if you go on holidays? I definatly agree that you should adopt from a shelter though, there are plenty of puppys there looking for forever homes
