Guest Anonymous Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 My papillion pup has ear mites. When administering the meds I massaged the ear folds and one of the ears dropped. Is this permanent? Anything I can do to right the ear? She is still on the meds. To the Vet tomorrow. Quote
imported_Kat Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 You mentioned that your dog is a pup. Her ears will be up and down like a yoyo regardless of any other mitigating factors when she is teething. I wouldn't worry to much about it right now and hope the mites clear up for her  Quote
Shenanigans Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 You're in a pickle though, the ears do go up and down, but from what I've learned with GSDs and Shelties is that once you have the ears set, don't touch them! GSDs in particular! Especially if they're going up and down. Some people recommend vitamin C to help with the ears...it also helps with low pasterns in my experience, I haven't had the opportunity to try it for ears though. But if you have to work medication into the ear, you have to. I would massage ever so gingerly, try not to disrupt the cartilidge. Then don't touch the ear at all unless you have to and if you can keep puppy from scratching them, that would be a big help too. Good luck! Quote
Aroura Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 Oh can we see photos??? Congrats on getting the best breed out! Or am i just biased? I've never seen a Papillon with ear problems, though I've never had a Papillon as a pup either, but I hear that all sorts of funny things happen in those early days re ears. My first Papillon didn't even have any fur on his ears when I got him!!! His litter mates had chewed it all off, he looked more like a bat then a butterfly! Here they are :D Quote
courtnek Posted June 12, 2004 Posted June 12, 2004 I'm kinda leaning towards your being biased y'know.....          Quote

imported_Cassie Posted June 13, 2004 Posted June 13, 2004 Your pup has ear mites, they are very itchy and can be painful...I have seen many dogs with ear infections drop their ears when being treated...I have even seen cats drop their ears or carry them low when being treated for ear mites. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Treat your pups ears until your rid of the ear mites....once healthy and happy the ears will go up. Most animals find treatments in their ears to be unpleasant and will hold their ears down...its quite normal. Quote
