science_doc Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 I guess there have been lots of trolls on the board lately, but I haven't noticed because I don't get to visit here as often as I would like  I wanted to post something happy to cheer everyone up. I did want to update people on the progress of my dog Hailey in her obdience training. I have to say that I am completely amazed at how well postive training works on dogs, even those as "old" as my rescue doggie. Hailey has picked up virtually EVERY command we have learned in class. I am proud to say the instructor uses us as an example of the "moving watch" for heeling and the "swing" finish (usually done by little dogs, but for some mystery reason Hailey is not keen on running around me in a circle). 8) I have learned soooo much from the instructor. I am having so much fun that I am thinking about getting into some mutt obdience competetions. I was wondering if anyone is aware of clubs in their area that has a mutt or altered doggie competition? I know there are a couple kennel clubs here in MI that are doing this type of competition. I was also wonering if anyone had an good advice on how to get information about how obdience competitions work, since I must admit to complete and total lack of knowledge on the subject? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 wow! that is great news!! glad to hear that it's all going well!!! :) Quote
imported_Kat Posted June 9, 2004 Posted June 9, 2004 First of all excellent news :D As far as the comps go, talk to your instructor and if he/she isn't competitive then get in contact with your kennel club and ask about competitive training classes in your area and they will also give you a list of shows that you can toddle along to and watch  Quote
