Guest Anonymous Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 Last night Coal was sleeping on my bed (a rare privilage mind you, and he's only allowed if I say so and he asks nicely  ) and Tazzy, one of my cat's came in my room. She was quite nervous about the dog being in there, but crept forward slowly. Coal sat up and looked towards her and I gave him the command "Leave It", and he relaxed a bit more. After a while Taz moved forward again, causing the same reaction from Coal, and me using the same comand getting the same reaction of him calming once more. This happend several times until Taz was right up at the bed. Coal finally chilled and put his head back down to sleep, so Tazy jumped ON the bed and curled up on my chest. Which if course I had to push her off because I couldn't see Coal and how he was reacting  I was so proud of them both though! Taz is quite afraid of dogs, and Coal handled it and listened to me just wonderfully! Funny thing was, I was reading "How to Speak Dog" By Stanely Coren, and was at the chapter about Cats and Dogs  and how their body languages often cause confusion because of their different meanings but the same movement. (Cat's flick their tail when mad, dog's wag theirs when happy  ). Next step, get POKEY to act like this! She was attacked by two large dogs when she was fairly young, and is SO skitterish now, especially around dogs!! Although she has learned that I WILL remove the dog from her pathway or hang onto him, she does trust now that when I have him with me then he won't go near her, but I have to be holding onto him, she won't go by trusting that my mere command will control him  Daiquiri on the other hand   She slept between Hazel's paws when she was a kitten, she has NO problems with dogs, and will quite often play with Coal and he just LOVES it when she cleans his ears   I was so happy that Taz took this big step though! I'm hopping that maybe, just MAYBE she can be more like Dak around dogs  At least she's finally learned that if she RUNS the dog will Chase, Dak learned this long ago, and in fact instead of running will rub right up against Coal   Quote
