I didn't just go out and get this breed. Two hitchhikers didn't want her anymore and were looking for people on the streets who would take her. There are alot of really mean people around where I live towards dogs...and most of them would jump at the chance to get the dog so they could use it for breeding or fighting, which is also damn common around here....I took her in because I know that I can take good care of a dog and I do my homework...I love animals and I always want whats best for them...that's why I have her...and that's why I get insulted when people jump at me and start telling me how bad I am at this and that...that's just wrong, I don't care what anybody says..its not how you got about explaining things to someone who really cares....I got her because I cared about her wellbeing....not because I thought getting a pit bull would be cool... she was basically just going to be "dumped" off on the street....

But yeah..I'm still bad and give the breed a bad name..I know i know.. :-?

pshh..

Did I SAY THAT?

I'm glad you took her in, but you could have also brought her somewhere where they'd place her in a home where someone had learned about the breed first, you shouldn't really get ANY breed of dog without doing your homework FIRST, ESPECIALLY with a breed like the pit bull. Sorry if you think I'm rude, I'm just telling you my OPINION and the honest truth.

:o This would make me feel pretty crappy if I were PBL. I took my dog in from a bad situation (the woods of Kentucky) and I didn't try and dissect his breeds and learn everything about them before I decided to keep him. I think PBL did a great thing and is doing a great thing by coming here and asking advice and following it. What more do you want?

And if I were a rescue group I would prefer that PBL keep the dog herself. It's not easy to find homes for pit bulls. Why give the dog up when she already has a good home?

I agree Kendalyn. For all we know, fate may have placed this dog in her hands, we just dont know why yet. From what she says, better with her than with the low-lifes that live around her.....

Let's just let this drop. Sure, she made a mistake but thankfully no one had to pay the price for it. She is learning & is willing to learn. We ALL make mistakes, we ALL have done things & found out later it wasn't the best thing to do. Give the chick a break, she's learning.

One reason we are so protective of this breed is that when something happens that effects ONE bully, it effects us ALL.

sorry, I probably didn't word it properlly, I've been having a really bad day and am increddibly pissed right now.
I didn't say she should give the dog up, she obviously loves her and is doing what she can for the dog, just I don't think I'd take in a dog of a breed I don't know much about, especially a pit bull.

go with me on this Shara....

I took in Laurel, without knowing anything about Hounds. She has been an eye opener, trust me.

yes, she doesnt have the Pit's bad rap, and yes, she doesnt have the potential to be animal aggressive, but I took her because no one else would. She does have a small animal prey drive, since she hunted fox, and I seperated her from my cat for a while (actually, he seperated himself). I was NOT expecting the ear-splitting bay. I didnt know she would continue it when no longer in the pack. wrong, me. I had no idea how shy she was around males. wrong, me. I did not know that she would become so attached to me that she would defend me from my own son.
wrong, her. It's been a learning experience. I had NO idea how sensitive hounds are, to loud voices, yelling, even a mean look can send her scrambling. wrong, me. she is coming around now. It's been almost a year. A learning experience? yes. PBL has been given the best advice we can give her for her Pit. If she continues to learn, care and grow, it will be a good thing. She has shown a lot of sense, and a real caring, having saved this dog from potentially being fought, or used as bait. All we can do is learn, and grow....

I've bred pits for close to 17 years and I have to say that they are some
of the loyalest, most non-child aggressive dogs I have encountered.

While they may be wary of new visitors, they are by no means or in any
way inherently vicious. And I do everything I can to prove with my pits,
that they are exactly as I said and that they get bad publicity as "genetically prone to be vicious". ...BUT

I like the energy bar image. It's kewl. Sorry. And to censor it in any way
would be a travisty to American Democratic Rights.

Just my opinion.

I am a new comer to the thread and to owning a dog. :D I am researching for my first AmStaff Pit. I understand that they are less animal aggressive but should not be fully trusted around other animals, especially really dominant or small animals. I have been researching this breed for about a year and a half and the thing that sticks out the most (besides being animal aggressive) is that apbt are the most loyal animals and will do anything to please their owner or sometimes any person. I have a close friend that owns two abpt and they are the sweetest things. Dosha is a male about 2 years old and every time I enter the room he goes crazy. I was the first person to feed him as a pup. I have learned a lot from him and Sensy (the other abpt). Dosha will let you know if he is not getting enough attention or does not like how loud everyone is being. I think that it is very important to know about a breed before getting it but in the case of PBL I think that she is doing a great job and will continue raising a great dog if she continues to educate herself. I know that once I get my AmStaff I am not going to stop educating myself.

Anyways, sorry for rambling, my question was how much does a abpt eat in a week, that is in lbs. I want to fully prepare myself.
