Guest Anonymous Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 I need a little help. I have a puppy that is 4 months old. She is a mix between a Husky and a Britney Spaniel. She has no control over when she goes to the bathroom..ie..pee. She could be stading, jumping running, in front of you and she'll just pee or she could be walking and she'll just pee without even noticing that she does it. Sometimes she does not stand in her peeing positon to use the bathroom. I have had a very hard time getting her trained period. She pees in the house and she knows what she has done is wrong because then she'll go and hide. Often she'll sneak into another room just so she can use the bathroom. But then there are times where she'll whine to let us know she has to go but it's never consistent. But always in the morning she'll wake me to let me know she has to go. Any suggestions? Quote
Lokipups Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 Crate train the pup, you'll be amazed at how much it will help housebreak a pup. Here's a link on how to crate train, and how to housebreak http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Questions&action=display&num=1084255326 http://dogden.proboards21.com/index.cgi?board=Questions&action=display&num=1074722872 At four months old, she's just a baby yet, be firm, be fair, and most important, be consistent! imported_Kat Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 As Loki said your pup is still very much a baby. Have a good routine with her and keep her confined to the one place. Feed her at regular times every day (3/4 small meals daily), then as soon as she has eaten place her on papers in the room where she is kept. Use an associating word (I use hurry up) when she pees so she will get the link and will know when you say the command that she has to pee. My dog will pee on command when I tell her even if she doesn't have to pee, she will still squat and go through the motions  When your pup has peed on the paper praise her and tell her shes a good girl. When she gets the idea of peeing on the paper in the house, take the paper out to the garden and repeat the process of setting her on the paper and praise her when she has gone. Persevere with her and keep setting her on the paper throughout the day and don't let her leave the paper until she has wet. Gradually you will be able to take the paper away and she will be squatting on the grass providing that she has had all her vaccinations. Don't worry, she will get the idea! You just have to be patient with her and praise her up so she knows that she is a good girl. I hand rear pups from time to time and usually from the age of 3 weeks they will get the idea by association of routine and pee on the paper when they are set onto it. Good luck :fadein: Quote
