StarFox Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 My best friend called today and my mom picked up the phone but I realy didn't want to talk to her because I was realy tired. But my mom hands me the phone and tells me that it's an "emergency". So I take the phone call and my friend is all panicky on the other end and she goes "How do I take off a choke collar?!" I told her that she has to pull it off the dogs head. She askes me "there arn't any clasps or snaps to take it off!?" calmly I say "No you need to pull it off, just push his ears threw it. Why do you need to know is it caught on something?" And she tells me "No, we need to give him (micheal) a bath, he got sprayed by a skunk".  I hear her over the phone yelling at her husband "Pull it off his head!!!!!" then she says "thanks your the best!" and hangs up. Mind you that my friend is 20 years old and has had dogs all her life. I have had a dog for two years and she calls me when she dosn't know what to do. I told her in the begining when her family got Micheal from the rescue that she needed to take the choke chain off but apparently she didn't listen to me. But realy how do you know not know how to take off a choke chain? I swear she isn't the bright colour in the crayon box. :drinking: Quote
imported_Kat Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 On that note it might be an idea for you to give her a quick lesson Star. I hate and boycott chokes totally but if she is using one, please make sure that she is using it right and that the chain is on the left side of the loop in the P position. People should go through a test before they get a dog  Quote
Carolk9s Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 If your friend insists on keeping a choke collar on her dog at all times, STRONGLY suggest she buy a snap bolt and clip the two rings together. This will prevent the dog from catching the live ring on something and choking itself. Of course the dog could still catch the collar and twist it, again choking. Of course a choke should NEVER be left on a dog, only on when a human is attached to dog via a leash. Quote

My X always left a choke on Jarvis, and it got caught on the chain link fence. I was fortunate my neighbor say it and came and got me. I dont use them myself any more, I have halters. Quote
StarFox Posted June 7, 2004 Author Posted June 7, 2004 *sigh* Trust me I have had that conversation before. I have told her about choke collars and the hazards of keeping them on all the time. She just dosn't care. I take better care of her dogs when i'm at her house then she does. She is just one of thoes people who should NEVER own dogs. :-? Quote
