Aroura Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 I was just curious as to weather anyone here feeds eagle pack. I don't really have the time at the moment, or the energy to make up BARF meatballs, its mostly a matter of getting all the different meats etc from different places without a car, its impossible! Also bargain hunting etc, it just takes so long and with uni etc I don't have the time at the moment. The only problem is, the only kibble I would even consider feeding my dogs is eagle pack, I've heard what they have to say and I like it, but can't get it here so will have to import it... not such a bad thing now that Josh will be going me halves in the food bill! I was still going to give them a chicken neck each in the evenings, they need it for their teeth and I couldn't dream of feeding dogs on a diet not containing fresh raw meaty bones! So does anyone feed this? Any oppinions? Quote
Malamum Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 Hi Aroura, Where are you planning on getting Eagle Pack from? When you say importing - are you going to import it yourself or just order it from someone who does? My breeder feeds it and gave me all the details of the person she orders it from. If you want I can find them for you so you can compare prices with where you were planning on getting it from. Quote
Aroura Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 Well I wasn't actually "planning" to get it from anywhere yet - I went to the site and emailed the contact they had for Australia, so I'm waiting on a reply. I'm thinking of asking one of the vets if they will stock it. I'd love it if you could find that info for me though, to be honest I've got no idea how much it costs! :o Quote
Malamum Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 OK, the details on the sheet she gave me are as follows: Becky & Don Walters Eagle Pack - NSW Agents PO Box 751, Kings Langley NSW 2147 PH: 0500 532454 Email: eaglepacknsw@ozemail.com.au I have a price list here too, but it lists all of their products and as I've never actually used it myself I'm not 100% sure which is which. I'll give you some examples though: Eagle Puppy Pack: 7.5kg $48.05 15kg $86.90 Eagle Natural pack: 7.5kg $48.91 15kg $84.73 Eagle Power Pack: 7.5kg $ 47.75 15kg $86.42 (this one was highlighted so I am assuming the one my breeder uses) Eagle Holistic Select Formula: 7.5kg $83.53 15kg $104.64 That price list is dated 2002 so has probably changed since then, but it should give you a bit of an idea. Sarahstaff Posted June 6, 2004 Posted June 6, 2004 I fed the Eagle Pack Holistic Blend to my dogs for one large bag, it's a good food and I like it fine. I went back to the Canidae which I usually feed, though, as it's more easy for me to find, and costs less. Quote
Aroura Posted June 6, 2004 Author Posted June 6, 2004 Thanks for that malamum! I'll email them now and see what they say  I was planning to alternate the foods, I've heard that feeding the same food for long periods of time can lead to build ups in the body, so its best to alternate every few months. They've got a fair variety at eagle pack, I went to the site, so I'll alternate between them and put them on a month or two of BARF every now and again to give them a change. I'm not a believer in feeding the same thing every day  I don't think I'll be able to afford the holistic one though :o Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 If Eagle Pack were available to me locally without having to order it, I'd feed it to mine on a rotation. Right now we're rotating Wellness, Canidae and Solid Gold (of course, with the homecooked they get  ) because that's what's available to me. I'd love to be able to find Eagle Pack nearby. I believe it's a great food. Quote
TDG Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 eagle pack holistic select is definitely a good line of food, but i don't like their non-holistic formulas all that much. there are better products out there. as for Aroura napisał(a):I was planning to alternate the foods, I've heard that feeding the same food for long periods of time can lead to build ups in the body, so its best to alternate every few months. They've got a fair variety at eagle pack, I went to the site, so I'll alternate between them you should be aware that the purpose of rotating foods to avoid over- or underfeeding certain nutrients is defeated if you only rotate between foods of one single manufacturer, since they use the same vitamin/mineral premix formula for all their products. if you are still feeding a variety of other, fresh foods, there is nothing to be concerned about sticking with the same brand and type without rotating. :) Quote
Aroura Posted June 7, 2004 Author Posted June 7, 2004 Glad to hear you like it Horsefeathers, I have much faith in your oppinion  TDG, I think I'm a far cry from being able to afford holistic formula! Its so hard to find any good food here, the only other food thats even half decent is science diet and eukanuba. I'd definatly be adding a variety of fresh foods, I don't think I could be satisfied not doing that! What would you consider a better product? Quote
TDG Posted June 7, 2004 Posted June 7, 2004 aurora, i know it's difficult for you aussies. :( i have aussie friends on another forum who face the same troubles. eagle is definitely much, much better than science diet or eukanuba, i even consider eagle's lower-end line (prism) as better than those two and a number of other popular brands. other brands definitely worth looking into (those are imo also better than the non-holistic eagle) are canidae and innova. canidae is usually more affordable than either eagle or innova. Quote
Aroura Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 I'm looking at the web pages too. I've considered feeding innova before, but for some reason Eagle Pack stuck in my mind. I'll email some people and find out which I can get easiest for the best price :D Quote
Aroura Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 Well Canidae seems a no go, but I do like the looks of Innova, it only has one dry food, so I think I'd still try to get Eagle Pack as a rotating brand, but I did find one thing pretty funny, I did the food calculater for Montie, here are his results: http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=profile-wiz-results&animal=Dog&name=Montie&weight=1.7&metric=1&dry=1&can=0&ratio=0&treats=&biscuits=0&go.x=11&go.y=4 Take particular note of what he would be getting if he were "inactive" Quote
TDG Posted June 8, 2004 Posted June 8, 2004 well that's just not quite enough i'd say! rofl! innova is an awesome food tho. it's my personal favorite. Quote
Aroura Posted June 8, 2004 Author Posted June 8, 2004 There were a couple of things that made me decide against Canidae, mostly because they didn't have an email for me to contact them on! There were these stupid forms, that asked for your address before it would be accepted, and of course me living in australia couldn't complete them, we have a four digit area code, not a zip code for starters.. duh! Innova does look very good though, very tempting.... especially if it means that if I keep Montie at home and don't walk him he wont need to be fed either!   Quote
Malamum Posted June 11, 2004 Posted June 11, 2004 Aroura, Innova is a great food. That's what I ended up feeding Indy before I made the switch to BARF. There is two downsides to it though. In Australia we can only get it from bloody Pets Paradise and I hate that store with a passion - it always caused me guilt to give them my money. Second reason is it is very expensive. 9kg bag costs about $75.00 (they apparantley don't import the 15kg bag). If you do decide to go with it let me know. Pet's paradise has a buy 10 bags get the 11th free (or something like that). I think I got up to about 9 and then stopped buying it. I can post you the card I have that records the number of bags purchased and at least you can take advantage of the free one. Quote
Aroura Posted June 12, 2004 Author Posted June 12, 2004 Well I got an email from Pets Paradise re Innova, it was very helpful BUT since I've decided to stay with BARF and Innova has all ingredients I'd have in a regular BARF menu, I'm going to buy the Eagle Pack and just feed it twice weekly, a bit more often in the pups really young days. I just couldn't bring myself to feed kibble, it felt too wrong  I've decided I can make the meatballs quickly and easily, so long as I organise myself... so there's really no reason to feed kibble. Montie and Cassie are just doing so well and I couldn't take that away from them  Quote
