ok I know that all dogs show a sort of "internal clock", about feeding times, and when their people come home, and when they know if you're going to work or not. Most of it has been half-heartedly explained by insignificant signals you dont know you're giving.....

NOT THESE TWO!!!! I let them out at 6:30 to play in the yard (at their insistance). I'm sitting here reading posts, and suddenly I hear Freebee barking and Laurel jumping on the door. I look at the PC clock. It's 7:01...
they get fed every night at 7:00, no exceptions....(banning an emergency)

HOW DID THEY KNOW IT WAS 7:01????

I was NOT out there with them, there were no signals they could get from me....yet at 7:01 they're demanding "in and feed"....

:o :o :o :o

Hahaha, I def. understand where you are coming from. We feed the dogs at 6:30 every night, and they start getting rather ornery if 6:30 passes w/out dinner. Dex is a total ham. God forbid that we feed Kira while he is in his kennel, he will whine and yodel til its his turn to eat.
On a side note, Dex has just learned what "dinner" means. It is his new favorite word

I don't know how they do it, buy mine always seem to know also. They always know when it's time to eat. They also know that when I take them out at two in the afternoon they have to come inside and go in their crates. Because that's when I go pick my daughter up from school. But heaven forbid I don't feed them at 5:30. They walk around and whine a little at the top of the stairs (their crates are downstairs and that's where they eat). It's kinda freaky actually. :D Sometimes I wish my internal alarm clock was as good as theirs! :D

My girls know exactly when it's time to eat and time for their bedtime cookie. Dog forbid I should sleep in, like past 7am. Not gonna happen. Candy wakes me by jumping on me and enthusiastically licking my face and punching me with her nose. Right about 7pm, she will start sneaking glances at me, Brittany is far more pushy, she will prop herself up and STARE. Starts getting close to 10:30pm, again with the sidelong glances and outright stares, it's COOKIE time!
Jesse is far more laid back about mealtime and cookie time but he also knows how to work the system. Just about everyday, he will bring me his bowl, he gets a treat, he then will bring me Brittanys bowl, another treat. Of course the girls enjoy this as they too get a treat.
Wait, just WHO IS RUNNING THIS HOUSE! 8)

I know it's there, but I don't fully understand it, either. Not only do mine do the feeding time thing and the waking up thing, but they do seem to know when hubby is on his way home. I don't mean in the routine sense. If he's gone into town, or doing something that is out of the ordinary, they will become frantic BEFORE he ever gets near the house. There is no way I can be giving them a cue because I don't even know he's there. He has to be at least a couple of miles away when they start barking and getting frantic. He says they do the same if I'm gone and come in unexpectedly. I could understand this during routine comings and goings like work and things we do every day, but how do they know we are on our way when it is NOT a routine thing? When I took an eight hour trip a few weeks ago, no one had any way of knowing when I'd be back, but my husband said they started barking in the front window several minutes before I got home. That always puzzles me.

Yes, Coal deffently knows "Cookie" now, if I just look like I'm heading to that cupboard he can hear it a MILE away

He also knows when my bus gets to my stop, before it gets there, he knows when I'm comming home, and waits at the end of the driveway. Mom said he asks to be let out several minutes every day before I get home :) Lately I've been getting rides home with Jared though when he doesn't work, and those times I usually find Coaly on the porch :( Probably gave up waiting (when I'm late) or hadn't headed to the driveway yet (if I'm early)

He knows VERY well the sound of both my parent's vehicals, and can hear them comming way before i can. I know the sound of them as well, and even of my neighbor's vehical :o But Coal can hear the truck or car LONG before I have!
