Horsefeathers! Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 I was in our nearby all in one inclusive supermegastore today (though I'd rather take a beating than be in Wal*Mart, but still there I was). I'd been mulling over getting one of those carpet spot cleaners because, let's face it, there are TEN dogs in the house. 'Nuff said about that :o . We do have a heavy duty industrial size floor cleaner, but it's really not practical for the occasional oopsy. I generally use a good cleaner and the blot, scrub, dab, cuss, sweat, strain, scrub some more method of getting up spots, but was thinking I'd like to try something a little easier. Now, I'm not always a very good decision maker. Ask my husband or best friend who'd rather die a slow, painful death than have to shop with me because I agonize over every little thing. I finally settled on the little Bissell Spotlifter Quote
courtnek Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004 ... Bissell "proudly sponsors Petfinder.com... ADOPT A HOMELESS PET." Isn't that cool?? I thought it was.      doesnt surprise me - most people buy Bissells for pet accidents. I used to have one, when I had carpeting....they work pretty good, but you still need to spritz the spot with something that will take the smell out for the dogs. other than that, they clean up pretty nicely. Lokipups Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 Mei-Mei, if the carpet was cleaned once before with anything other than the cleanser they recommend, you get a mountain of suds when it tries to extract, I know from experience  . They sell an anti foaming solution to add to the machine to stop it, works well. Quote
Horsefeathers! Posted May 18, 2004 Author Posted May 18, 2004 Well, I gave the thing a try this evening just for kicks and grins only after staring at the box for an hour trying to decide whether to open it or take it back. I didn't have a stain to get up (go figure), but still picked out a little high traffic area and had a go at it. I like it, but it takes a LOT of elbow grease to get the soapy stuff back up (or maybe I'm just lazy). You have to tilt it forward so the brushes aren't touching the floor and kind of press down hard and move slowly. Our floors are shampooed at least twice yearly, but I didn't have a problem with foamy stuff as long as I pressed that vacuum part thingy down. When I didn't, the brushes just beat it and it foamed right up. It did a good job, though, and made me realize from that one little spot that our floors are due to be cleaned again. All in all, it gets the HF stamp of approval and I'll be keeping it. :) Thanks for the input. 8) Quote
TDG Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 i have one (cordless tho) and love the little thing. it makes cleaning up messes properly sooooo easy. however, i use the good old nature's miracle for cleanup, not whatever bissell sells, and it works well. :) Quote
imported_Debbie Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I think I'll look into getting one of those......I have one of the big upright Bissell steam-cleaning machines and it's not practical for small spots. Quote
xavierandrea Posted May 18, 2004 Posted May 18, 2004 I have one of those. I love it!! I even use it to clean the sofas and mattresses(sp).. LOVE IT!!! Quote
