Is there any reason why you want them cropping?

Good luck in finding a vet. Most vets dont know the proper way to crop a pit bulls ears.

I can not stress enough the importance of talking to the vet about cropping a pit bull specifically. as mentioned in other threads, vets are never taught how to do this and while they may have cropped other breeds hundreds of times, they are not pit bulls ears and a bad crop is forever. Take pictures with you to illustrate the type of crop you want if possible take a cropped dog with you when you meet with him so he can see it from all angles. I have two dogs that i had cropped by the breeders prior to shipping and both are way too short. First be sure that you want to have it done, and if you do then make sure you are very clear and informative with the vet that will do this. if everything goes well then it can really make your dog look sharp, if not then your dog can look bad.

be careful.

I absolutely hate the cropped ear look. To me it looks really ugly.

Tail docking I can understand as it is done when the pup is just a few hours old, or in the case of our breeder, as soon as the pup is born, the tail is banded. I own a docked breed but docking is now banned in Australia. I will own my breed with a tail...no objections at all.

Ear Cropping has been banned here for years I am happy to report.

Ear cropping is done when the dog is older and from what I have heard it is very painful and has a long, slow recovery period. Why would you put your dog through that?

Over here with BSL it is difficult enough to keep our Pittys alive without them looking fierce with cropped ears.

Ear cropping is ideally done at 7-9 weeks of age. The ears heal in about a week.

After watching several litters being cropped (there's very little blood), as well as interacting with several litters of newly cropped pups... I hate to say it, but they're fine. My dog didn'teven whimper once - even when we were cleaning the edges. She acted like a normal puppy.

I think it really depends on who does the crop. Inexperienced croppers can botch the job and makethe dog miserable... experienced croppers can make it a relatively easy and painless procedure.

Like prevention of future damage or infection or something?

Just as many cropped dogs get ear infections. It's a myth that cropping helps prevent it.

Oh yeah, make sure you stop over at PitBullForum.com and post a picture of your dog, myself and one other member have done a ton of 'photocrop' jobs. Check out the photocrop picture guidelines for the best results! Then you can bring in an actual picture of your dog for the vet to follow.

Oh, and laser crops are supposed to be the least painful and don't need stitches.
