Guest Anonymous Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 do female dogs have cycles....im thinking of getting a female but dont know if they bleed every month? Quote
imported_nea Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 They bleed when they are in heat, which is what, twice a year or so? And that can easily be illiminated by spaying. Quote
Anulka Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 Most bitches are in heat every 6 months (sometines once a year like basenjis) and they start bleeding all over the place :( Quote
Anulka Posted May 15, 2004 Posted May 15, 2004 And another thing.. It'll be better for both you and your dog if you spay her. Quote

courtnek Posted May 17, 2004 Posted May 17, 2004      I dont know...I kinda like "The Bitch"....know some people it would definitely apply to....(not here! at work....) yes, your dog will have seasons, probably twice a year. Everyone has suggested spaying, but if you dont know, here's why. A female allowed to go into heat stands a much stronger chance of developing "female" cancers. Of the fallopian tubes and the uterus. Also, a female in heat will try much harder to escape, to mate, than a spayed one. Even if she cant escape, there will be unneutered male dogs hanging about whenever she's in season. It only take a moment for "accidents" to happen, and them it's too late. Please consider getting her spayed, for her own good and yours as well. By the way, if you decide on a male instead, we will all also suggest you get him neutered. For all of the above reasons. Unneutered males suffer testicular cancers, dominance issues, and escapism.
