I am still around and Drey is doing fine.... We have been perfecting some of his basic OB commands, okay really its just his heel... he is always lagging or surging :-? He is doing much better now though... also Diallo has started to pick up a lot of the commands just by watchig Drey, I dont usually really start training until 6 months but diallo is intent on getting in on the treats. He is by far the most attentive puppy i have ever dealt with. He is a auto-sit king, every corner without being asked he is sitting down before i even come to a stop.
Its kinda weird situation right now with the whole Drey thing... I cant talk about it. If you want to know why PM me and I can tell you but not on the public forum. But i just wanted to let the board know that Drey is right here doing great and is still in charge of passing out kisses and getting belly rubs.

welcome back Rott! 8)

and if any of the guests show up to do more "Rott-bashing", I'll have THIS thread locked as well. Go troll somewhere else, I'm sure you can find a nice bridge to lie in wait under....

Nice to see you again, Roo!
Decide to start posting again? Hope so!!

I am not a moderator Anne. But all the moderators here have shown remarkable good sense when asked to lock a thread, by anyone, not just me, and I appreciate their doing this for us. That's what I meant when I said I would ask to have this thread locked if it got out of control again.

Can someone please explain the rationale behind locking threads to me?

It seems easy enough to just not read a thread that is bothering you.

I guess I've never been one for censorship.

Kendalyn, in theory that is absolutely correct. However, in real life, it just doesnt work. Trolls and bashers work on everyone;s emotional levels, not their rational ones. As a general rule, for instance, I am very laid back and easy to get along with. There are some buttons, however, that when pushed, I will go over the edge. One of my big ones got pushed in Rott's threads. I will NOT ever assume someone is guilty, just because other people I dont know have ganged up on him to try to push his guilt down my throat. I dont really "know" Rott either, but I still know him better than a bunch of strangers that decided to show up out of the blue and trash him. yes, they are entitled to post their opinions, however, no one else is required to have to accept them. and when people pushed back, and defended Rott, they decided to get personal. That's when I asked for the thread to be locked. It was no longer a discussion, it had become of battle of wills. My own included.

Does that explain it?

Well.. yes and no :-)

Locking a thread in effect says, "This discussion isn't going the way I would like, so now nobody else can discuss it." It's the internet version of a little kid saying, "I'm taking my ball and going home." It stifles anybody elses opportunity to voice their opinion on the subject (even Rott'n'Pits). So that's where I really have a big problem with it.

There have been discussions on here that I have found extremely disturbing and knowing a fight or even further discussion would go no where, I simply stopped reading it. I would never want to take away someone else's ability to discuss something only because it is bothering me.

I think it's very interesting that Rott 'n' Pit to my knowledge never asked for any of the threads about him to be locked.

and in most cases I agree with you. In this, and a few other threads that were locked, the discussion had degenerated into name-calling. At that point, I really think it was time to "take the ball and go home...."

:D

I am not sure its really a case of "this discussion isnt going the way I would like"

I didn't mean how you felt personally K, I meant that when someone asks for a thread to be locked, that is what they are in effect saying.

I'll have to agree to disagree on the locking the thread thing because I think any reason for doing it can always be countered with telling someone to just stop reading any discussion that is bothering them.

I would agree with locking the threads on request from Rott 'n' Pit though.

I agree with K to an extent on the locking threads business. If a member or guest is in breach of the user agreement, degenerating into personal attacks, or going completely off topic (usually this coincides with the name calling :agrue: ), then it is time to consider thread locking. I locked a thread recently that courtnek requested to be locked. I didn't really do it because she asked me to; rather, I looked at the situation and made a decision based on the content of the thread (a basic rehashing of the "what the hell" thread). However I try to take members' considerations into account when I moderate (I think I'm more impartial now than I was, say, 12-18 mths ago ;)). Speakign as a non-mod for a sec, I don't like the restriction on personal opinion (agree with what you wrote Kendalyn- "if you don't like the content don't read it!" but keeping the peace, while sounding like a cop-out, is probably a better option than not. That's my take on it anyway, for what it's worth. :)

and I agree with all of that as well. There were people on this forum who disagreed on the thread as well. While I argued with them, I had no problem with their having their own opinions on the subject. It wasnt until the "Guests" started name-calling and being abusive that I requested the thread to be locked. I do believe in free speech....but abusive of it, and personal attacks, I dont believe should have to be tolerated.

:)
