If we buy a new puppy, have we got to wait before he has all his jabs before we can go out with him. I mean He will obviousley come in to contact with Alfie, so wouldn't he pick up anything nasty from him.
Taking a young puppy out as soon as possible would be better for socializing

I don't know... I think before you socialise the puppy she or he has to be immunised (is it 16 weeks or something before puppy is fine to go out?), but I think you should be ok with Alfie if he is up to date with all his shots. I think it's just the risk of getting the puppy exposed to unimmunised dogs...? I am really not sure if that's right though, perhaps someone else could help? Maybe it also depends on whether you are pro or anti vaccination...? sorry I can't be more helpful!!

Yes definitely wait until your pup has had all his vaccinations before he ventures outside or makes contact with any other dog, except obviously your own but bear in mind your own dog may still be a carrier of diseases and infections through his experiences outside. Even if you have your puppy outside in the garden, make sure that when you bring him inside that you wipe his pads of his feet to get rid of any birds droppings which carry salmonella, leptospirosis and enterobacteria, which are all potentially dangerous to a young puppy. This time of year the birds are very active flying back and forward to their nests to carry food to their chicks, and these spring months and autumn/early winter months when birds begin to migrate are when puppies are most at risk from bacterial infections.

Congrats with your pup and don't worry you will have plenty of time to expose your pup to the outside world. Just get him used to a collar and lead with lots of praise and treats at the moment in the house.

Discuss it with your vet - with us it is two weeks after their last vacination.

You can still socialise your pup with puppy classes - ask your vet as they may even run puppy classes. Just make sure puppy classes are not run on grass/parks etc as they can not be properly cleaned.

You can also introduce you baby to new people during this stage but let the pup go at their own pace and don't force introductions (eg don't hand over the pup to strangers). We usually just have one or two visitors come in (ignore pup initially) and just wait for the pup to introduce themselves.

have friends come see YOU!! it will socialize them to people fromt he get-go. as far as other animals, you have to wait for the jabs...but at 4 months, they are still easily socailized wth other dogs..
