Lassie facts - things I didnt know

There was a show on about the 10 favorite TV animals. My two favorites came in in first and second place. Second went to Flipper (I'm SUCH a Flippe fan - I would love to live somewhere where I could befriend a dolphin) and of course, Lassie in first place. Everyone loves Lassie.

we all know all the Lassies were male. What I didnt know was very interesting. ALL of the Lassies, in the shows and movies, were bred from
the original Lassie, truly named "Pal". (lived up to his name, thats for sure)
There were 8 of them altogether (this show ran from the late 50's) and number 9 is waiting his place for the "casting call"... :D


The ONE show scene they could NOT get the original Lassie (Pal) to do, was snarl. He was so laid back, they had to bring in a "stunt collie" to do the snarling scenes. He would do the fake arm grabs, knock overs and take downs but he wouldnt snarl....too good natured I guess.


Lassie also has his own "star" (along with Kermit the Frog) on Hollywoods

Kermit has his own star??? :o :o :lol: :lol: I can understand the dog getting one, but Kermit? I REALLY hate him... and all the muppets... 'cept the crazy one and the dog, thems rule... but KERMIT? No way! Ugh, at least Lassie had some skills being REAL and all :roll: (oh yeah, wasn't this about Lassie? :lol: :wink: )

I actually already knew all those Lassie facts though :lol: 8) :wink:

As I got older and started to drive....I used to wonder if that was because none of those cars/trucks had power steering. I didnt know the scenes were faked.....but havent seen one in quite a while either.

#9 just took over last year, I do believe. #8 was the one in the last Lassie movie, and he also did some work in the last Lassie series, which I don't think is still running. The company ended up replacing him with a generic collie. They all do have their own names, and I knew them at one point. I think that either #8 or #9 is named George ;)

Lassie isn't AKC standard because they're always so large, plus they have the blaze which is not looked favorably upon in the show ring, but they always breed Lassie to AKC bitches to get the next one.

OMG, I forgot, my first thought when reading this thread was the Animal Planet coutdown of the Top 50 Animal Celebs... Lassie was #3!!! I was so mad! Especially when it turns out Mickey Mouse was #2, and #1 was... get this... Toto. Bah.

And Bart the Bear didn't even make the list :(

And they called Pete the Pup a "bull terrier"

Animal Planet was not on my Good list that night
