I don't remember which of you posted this last year, but you posted a link about the use of melatonin and peppermint extract for noise sensitive dogs (think storms). Well, here's an update you'll be proud of!

It's getting about that time of year again where we have the ritualistic afternoon thunderboomers. One of our dogs is holy moly afraid. He actually loses control of his bowels and bladder and will drool and pace (and pee and poop :-? ) when a storm comes up. We gave him acepromazine a time or two, but I really didn't like the idea of having him drunk for the entire day/evening just to get through a one hour storm. My husband was really, REALLY upset with me for giving Fred something so "strong" (Fred is just one of those dogs who doesn't handle ace so well... well, now I know  ). We had already tried Rescue Remedy with no results at all. You posted about the melatonin and peppermint and we've been using it since. It works! My poor Fred is a much calmer dog during storms, without being sedated. We are so happy. We've also been giving it to my Tucker Lab because he's quite nervous during storms, too, but just not to the extent as Fred. Both of them are much happier dogs and are much calmer. I love that they aren't dopey or sedated.

Anyway, I just wanted to post that little update and thank whoever  it was that posted it last year. It's just the trick!

That was me! Woo hoo, I am so glad to hear Fred and Tucker are benefitting from using melatonin and peppermint extract.
I used peppermint last night on Jesse, he was quite upset with a storm in the area, he did calm down a fair bit after I put the peppermint on his paw pads.
I must remember to ask the homeopathic vet just why peppermint helps so much.
