Guest Anonymous Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 Last night I noticed Coal licking his foot obsessivly, and brought it up with my parents. They said it was probably nothing, but I found it abnormal so thought it should be something to worry about. Well I was right :-? This morning mom told me Coal's limping :( We're not sure how he got the injury, my guess is he just twisted it in his excitment and fury towards the squirrels in the backyard  Mom said we will wait a while to see how he does, plus we can't get into the vets until Tuesday anyway, their not open on the weekends :-? (I can't remember why we can't take him on monday, I know mom said why though... ) So, I'm wondering if there's anything I can do to make the time more bearable for my poor baby? Besides the obvious of letting him rest... He wouldn't even come to me to get a cookie, it was really hard for him to get up, so I had to bring it to him :( I really hate seeing him like this, I hope so bad it's only minor and will heal quickly! courtnek Posted April 23, 2004 Posted April 23, 2004 yes, check for pad cuts, bur's broken nails, etc. If he'll let you (and you might want to muzzle him first) press lightly on the area on and around the paw and see if he shies away...check where the paw and leg meet, in the back. that''s a common place for injuries. Otherwise, if you find nothing stuck in the pads, or no cuts, just keep him quiet till you can get to the vet. It might just be a strain or sprain, or a pulled muscle. Dogs always lick where it hurts, even if it doesnt help any. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 24, 2004 Posted April 24, 2004 It's actually doing a bit better. He slept from about 10 this morning until 4:30 though :-? Then finally I got him to go outside, he seems a lot better from resting and then stretching it some. He's still favouring it, but not as much as he was this morning... I did look it over, his pad is fine, he flinches when I touch his "ankle" though, so I think that's where it's hurting him. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted April 26, 2004 Posted April 26, 2004 He's doing MUCH better, thanks for your concern! :D Was able to take him for a short walk today too. Poor guy, past couple days been trying to play with us like mad, but we figured he should still take it easy a bit, but he just LOVES to play, and he LOVES to run around and dart back and forth, so it would have been too hard on his leg. But he's doing awsome now, I think there's no need to take him to the vet. He must have just twisted it while chasing those darn Squirrels outside   Quote
