As most of you know i am very unhappy with what the butcher....err vet, did to his ears. I have been all over trying to find a way to atleast get them to stand properly so it wouldnt look as bad. We hears about molefoam and skin bond so i ran all over the city trying to find the skin bond no one knew what it was i finally found it at a medical supply store. and last night we went through the steps as shown on the cane corso site.... that breed usually has the ears cut this short, not pit bulls. after i was all done he stepped away and performed his signature move, the big shake.... and then nothing happened! they stayed on and his ears are still up. I am very happy here are some pics of him mostly with his head down.... i dont think he likes it too much. I tried to explain it to him, but he just gave me adirty looks.

We came inside and i tried to take some cloe pics but the dim house and the crappy resolution of my camera made these come out bad..... but here they are anyway :)

Aww, poor pup :( ! He's got such a beautiful face, probably even more so when he's not cranky  .
If you find the moleskin sliding off the ear because he was cropped so short, try getting a couple of those pink foam curlers, take the plastic out of them and insert a pencil, and spray them with the Skinbond, wrap the ears around them and tape up.

the vet that did it did nothing. the breeder started taping his ears. but when he got here there was no tape. i took him to a vet here and asked about his ears and was told that they were fine. after a few days they started to curl over his head and i took him back to the vet 3 times over the next week. to get them taped but the vet kept putting it off as they went further and further up, saying that they needed to heal more before we started taping. By the time he taped them it was too late they went right back up.
so I took it upon myself to do some research with people that had a similar crop and see what the preffered method was to get them down if possible. i was told by most that it could be done and this is the result of that coaching.

I am just hoping that it works because he is such a great looking dog and its bad enough his ears are as short as they are but when they curl up like that they look non existant.

Good Luck! If the ears have been down for awhile, there's a chance that they'll never stand correctly - or they may tip over his head when he's really relaxed or excited.

Your boy really is a cutie - and I must say that I like the look of cropped ears on the bull breeds.

Some information for anyone wanting to clip thier APBTs ears.... Most vets dont know where the cut is supposed to go. You will have to tell them.
Most vets try to crop them like a dobe or boxer but pits ears are supposed to be shorter. To determine the ear length hold the ear down parallel to the eye, without pulling or stretching. The cut should begin just short of where the medial edge of the ear meets the lateral canthus of the eye.

Hope everything straightens up for you RnP! Too bad the breeders didnt do thier part to keep them standing. He sure is beautiful though!

Correction: It's hard to find ANY vet that's good at cropping ANY dog. Since vets aren't trained in vet school to crop ears, they have to learn from other croppers - or, they'll just pretend that they know how.

The local vet (unless you're very lucky) probably doesn't do a good job on ears. Cropping is an art - not just a surgical procedure. It's takes a trained and experienced eye to get a good crop.

I am learning that right now. that while many vets may have cropped dogs before that doesnt mean they can crop this breed. I don tknow about that vet but the vet he went to here(not my vet, the one that does ears) said that "I dont now who did this but he shouldnt be cropping pit bulls" and i couldnt agree more. That guy must have never seen a well cropped pittie before, or he must think that this is what people want. i dont know but i do know that I will never again have my dogs cropped without speaking to the vet directly. I have made that mistake twice and will not make it again.

thanks for all the compliments, and wishes. Its only been two days but i can already tell thy look better, its a full time job keeping the tape tight and the ears in a good position.

hmmmm- great point and thanks or the tip, Im sure this is info i will be using in the future.

sizzledog- we do have a vet here that does a great job on ears (pit bulls included) I have seen a few of the dogs he did in person and i love the ears. I just found out about him too late.

Poor guy! He doesn't exactly look pleased with you. :) I hope he recovers soon.

I still don't understand why ears are cropped... imo it's a fairly cruel and unnecessary thing to do to a dog. I'm not having a go at you, I honestly don't get it.

For me at least. I like the way a dog look when cropped. it give them a more regal appearance, much like with dobies. I have owned a cropped and a natural dobie, and the cropped on had a much more elegant and regal appearance, i got a lot of compliments on him too. Some people think it makes them look meaner, but i dont look at pit bulls and see mean dogs, I just cant get past the bully smile. Thats my story and im sticking to it.

Thanks for explaining :) I think we will agree to disagree. :P There is not much that would turn me in favour of ear cropping. The only reason I would consider strong enough to do *anything* cosmetic to an animal would be for health reasons. Same as for people. :) LOL I can just imagine BK walking round with a face full of Botox to get rid of his wrinkles! :D
