mouseatthebusstop Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 please would European members sign- they are trying to ban the sale of vitamins and supplements for humans and animals to the public Dear Customer, We would not normally write to you in this way but feel this is so important that we had to bring it to your attention The Consumers for Health Choice (CHC) needs to collect one million e-signatures as the next stage of the S.O.S (Save our Supplements) campaign. I would be most grateful if you, your staff, friends, families could sign on-line at http://www.conservatives.com/vitamins When you click on the link there is a page, which explains the current situation. Forget about party politics - the stakes are too high. The fact that the Conservatives are doing this can only be helpful. We need British signatures only. They can be from Brits living in Europe - but not elsewhere. Other overseas signatures are not valid for this particular campaign. Can you help please? Stephen Dagnell G.Baldwin & Co Quote
abker17 Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Why would they want to bad those? :-? That makes no sense at all to me. Quote
courtnek Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 Hell, my doctor TELLS me to take vitamins.... WTF???? Quote
courtnek Posted April 16, 2004 Posted April 16, 2004 or are they maybe talking about supplements that contain Ephedra? Those have been banned here as well...some vitamin compounds (like weight watching vitamins) also contain Ephedra... Quote
Aroura Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 What is ephedra? Why is it bad? I'm taking it that it is addictive or something, thats why they want it banned, but if that is the case why would they put it in animal supplements? It doesn't make sence to me, vitamins do the world of good, why would anyone want to ban them? :-? Quote
courtnek Posted April 17, 2004 Posted April 17, 2004 ephedrine....Ephedra is the "common" name...it's basically a form of "speed"..it increases your heart rate, narrows your blood vessels... makes you hyper, basically. It can help you lose weight, because it increases your metabolism, but it also affects you heart and thyroid. Ifyour heart is borderline, or if you're taking drugs for other illnesses, it can kill you. It can cause your heart/thyroid to go into overdrive..basically a speed kill...you used to see it a lot in the 70's in the form of "Vivarin" - meant to keep you awake long past the time you should have been asleep. College students used it alot to cram for finals....the newer versions are stronger, and more deadly to a bad heart or thyroid...It's been banned here because it showed up in a bunch of diet drugs, with nasty consequenses...
