abker17 Posted April 14, 2004 Posted April 14, 2004 :( I'm having a discussion with DL on msnm right now about smoking and how sick it is, when I wondered if it effects my dogs. My dad smokes probably a pack a day. Inside, outside wherever. Around me, my mom, kid sister and my dogs. He's probably been smoking for more than 30 years. :-? This really pisses me off, it's his decision to smoke, and if he wants to slowly kill himself there's nothing I can do to stop him. BUT the smoke hurts me and my family, and now I've found it hurts my dogs to. THAT'S IT. Him smoking aroud me and my pets stops NOW. I've learned a lot of facts that I had NO idea about. I'm going to e-mail him right after I write this to tell him I won't put up with him smoking inside anymore. I will not stand by and let him hurt my dogs. So here are some articles I found on the effect secondhand smoke has on your pets: http://www.vetcentric.com/magazine/magazineArticle.cfm?ARTICLE=Secondhand%20Smoke%20Affects%20Pets,%20Too http://www.collegian.com/vnews/display.v/ART/2003/03/18/3e767d8fc1b7c I STRONLY urge those of you that do smoke to not do it around your pets, or even better quit all together. Do a search on it sometime, the facts aren't pretty. :-? Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted April 15, 2004 Posted April 15, 2004 I agree -- When we got Alice she had lived with smokers before (her breeder) and had a bad chest-- no-one smokes in my house within a day of two her chest was much better Quote
imported_Debbie Posted April 18, 2004 Posted April 18, 2004 I will agree that 2nd hand smoking is bad for people and animals, and it's a very nasty habit. My Mom smoked since she was 19yr. old, she's 71 now and still smokes even though she has emphysema and 2yr. ago had 1/2 a lung removed :o ! She is a more considerate smoker however, than when I was a kid. Since learning of the 2nd hand smoke effects, she does not smoke when any of us are around and will not smoke around my kids. I would definitely compare cigarettes to an addiction to drugs....they are very hard for some people to kick. My Mom has tried several methods to quit and she fails every time. :( Quote
