Lokipups Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 :x Now, how absolutely pathetic is it when the ACO's and ASPCA's officers themselves buy into the line of BS that pitbulls (and I quote) "just snap, they can just snap at any time". Dade County has a pit ban that could cost you thousands of dollars in fines or the euthanasia of your pit, but you can kill and sacrifice animals in the name of Santaria without a problem  :madgo: ? And I'm not knocking anyone's right to practice it, whatever blows your hair back, but that's having your cake and eating it too with the law as far as I'm concerned :o . Quote
kendalyn Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 :x Why would they say something like that!?! And even more importantly, why would Animal Planet air it!? :x Animal Planet has had shows on that are good publicity for pits, but then they put crap like that on the air? It makes no sense. Quote
Lokipups Posted April 9, 2004 Author Posted April 9, 2004 "These pit bulls have tasted blood. They didn't kill these rabbits to eat them; they killed them for fun." Yeah, right, like my Sibes wouldn't have done the same thing :P , along with just about any breed with strong prey drive! And yeah, to them it would be fun, it's what they're genetically programmed to do, like scratching an itch to us :-? . Quote
dogsgalore Posted April 9, 2004 Posted April 9, 2004 My Westie killed some of our chicks just for fun so I guess that means he could attack me any time?! Give me a break! Quote
courtnek Posted April 10, 2004 Posted April 10, 2004 the hunting/prey instinct is very strong in some dogs. The fact that they DIDNT eat the rabbits just means they werent hungry at the time. In the wild, they would have eaten them, or brought them back to the pack to share. I did feel sorry for the poor rabbits though. and the old guy who owned them. But the ACR's portrayal of this being just sport was incorrect. and the dogs should not have been loose anyway. Another bad owner, another set of dogs doomed to euthanasia...    Quote

While I know it's frustrating, I wouldn't necessarily wish someone else's pet be harmed because the ignorance of their owners. Let's just remember who it is we're angry with. Quote
courtnek Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004 I replied to both..basically the same email. amended between Animal Planet and the department... I AM APPALLED!!! I have watched Animal Planet for years, but the last Miami Animal Cops put me off COMPLETELY!! You aired AC agents, saying things like "all Pit Bulls can lock their jaws" (THEY CAN NOT!!!) AND "All Pit Bulls will snap.." THEY WILL NOT!!). Do these so-called Animal Control Officers know ANYTHING AT ALL about the dogs they "supposedly" CONTROL???? Pit Bulls can not lock their jaws...it is a physical impossibility...maybe they are confusing the Pits with Alligators? and "all Pit Bulls will snap?" do you have any idea how people friendly a well bred, well raised Pit Bull is? This is the dog that would lead the thieves to the safe...and lick them the whole time... I am really upset at your portrayal of these dogs, who already have the WORST reputation possible, because of media hype. At least take the time to LEARN about the dog, before you let the ACO's spout off about them.... and I dont want them working in MY neighborhood, that's for sure... GRRRRRR....      Quote
KookieSista18 Posted April 13, 2004 Posted April 13, 2004    I get so ANGRY when this sort of things happen. I was sitting in class the other day when one of my classmates started telling a story about someone who was attacked by a dog. It started with 'Oh some dog,I think it was a staffie or something'. When she said this I couldnt help myself,i started with the,'staffies and pit bulls were bred to dog fight, and be especially tolerant and loving of humans,as they had to stop the fights without getting bitten. They are one of only two breds to have good with childre written in their breed standard 'speech, needless to say it shut her up,and left most of the class stunned.Because they'd never seen me so worked up and passionate before! It's really off the topic, sorry  .I just had to let it out! Quote
