kendalyn Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 I'm dog sitting a Boxer named Sadie this week! I love this dog. She is sooo sweet and fun :-) But, I think she has an ear infection. :-? She's been shaking her head and scratching her ear since yesterday. And I think she cut her ear pretty bad itching it because there's a cut on the inside flappy part. So it's bleeding a little. Great. I know what vet she goes to so I guess I'll try and call her owners cell and tell them what's going on. It was REALLY bad last night. Her poor ear was so red and hot! It's a little better this morning but that's pretty typical of ear infections. They usually get worse at night... Hopefully I can get her in so she doesn't have to suffer through Easter with this. Everytime I dogsit Sadie I swear I'm going to get a boxer someday. She's sooo fun! Even with an ear infection she's still fun. What a sweetie :) Quote
imported_Kat Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 aww poor wee lass, she sounds so sweet too :) If you can't get her to a vet, then you could try a little cooking oil in her ear and massage the oil very gently and using a tissue (not cotton bud) clean out any discharge that you see. The oil will also help to sooth the ear, and prevent her scratching it and making it worse. Good luck with her. Quote
Boscoe13 Posted April 5, 2004 Posted April 5, 2004 We just had this issue with Boscoe. We took him to the vet and it was some sort of bacterial infection. The vet said that sometimes when dogs scratch their ears they transfer bacteria from their paw into the ear. Its not a serious thing but get it checked out as soon as you can Boscoe seemed very annoyed by it but now he's fine. He gave us ear drops but the previous post had a good idea with the cooking oil. Good Luck! Quote
kendalyn Posted April 7, 2004 Author Posted April 7, 2004 I took Sadie to the vet today. It was quite an experience! Guess what? She hates the vet. Granted her ears did turn out to be rip roaring infected, but WOAH that was a side of her I haven't seen before! I found myself telling the vet "she's usually really sweet!" I always think people sound dumb when they say that but I guess I can't think that anymore... Anyway, she has the meds and soon she'll start to get better! Yay! Now I have to figure out a way to give her the ear drops :o Quote
