kendalyn Posted March 26, 2004 Posted March 26, 2004 I woke up this morning and turned on that "Petsburgh USA" show on Animal Planet while I was getting ready. I don't know if you guys have ever seen it but at the end of the show they have a Q and A time with a vet named Dr. Rolan Tripp. Somebody asked him about when she can breed her dog and he gave her the WORST ADVICE!! :x He told her it's ok to breed anytime after 6 or 7 months!! I'll admit I don't know a whole lot about breeding but I do know that that is super young! He did say that she should have the dog's health and temperment checked but that was really all he said in terms of what to do before breeding. It's annoying to see someone give bad information to the public. Especially someone who is supposed to be respected in their field. Quote
Carolk9s Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 Kendalyn, I totally agree with you, how irresponsible of this idiot! Even IF her particular dog was ok to be bred that young, and I don't agree with that by the way, how many others might decide their dogs can be bred that young as well? Or feel that it's perfectly fine to breed at the first heat since THEY HEARD ON TV that 6-7 months was old enough. Shame on PETSBURGH USA! I used to see this show from time to time, I don't think it is carried by my local cable company anymore. Sounds like I am not missing anything of use! Apparently the show is produced by Discovery Communications, here is their link in case anyone else would like to drop them a line regarding this show. http://www.discovery.com/?channel=APL Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 very irresponsible :( a vet should know better Quote
__crazy_canine__ Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 I CANT BELIEVE HE SAID THAT!!!!!! :o :o :o People are getting so irresponsible with dogs! Quote
schippsmom Posted March 27, 2004 Posted March 27, 2004 :Dog_run: A vet actually said that?? Is he a real vet?? I always thought that you shouldn't breed before the third heat. I would think that at 6-7 months the puppy isn't even done growing yet. Wow!! I'm off to Discovery.com Paula & Re-Run Quote
kendalyn Posted March 27, 2004 Author Posted March 27, 2004 Yes he is a DVM. He's called an "Animal Behaviorist" on the show, but I went to his website and it says he is a vet. He has an animal behavior business. Here's some information on him: http://www.vet.utk.edu/savma/tripp.html Quote
