Marble Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 hey, just wanted to say hey while i had a break :) sorry i've been gone so much, sorry to hear about ellie and ickle and bk and all the others who have lost pets recently :( as most of you know dresden is a little crazy, mostly in a good way at this point. however, every so often she starts some funky phase of new behavior, sometimes good sometimes bad.......her most recent source of entertainment is chasing her tail. she runs in circles grinning like a maniac and trying to bite her tail, and she does it for a long time....often switching directions and only stopping when she is about to fall over :) i am not exaggerating, i promise. it is very entertaining but is this anything to worry about? i think i may have heard an old wives tail that it's a sign of something bad, can't remember what.... anybody have any comments? other than to laugh with her? PS i might not be able to respond for several days so don't be offended if i can't reply right away :) thanks Quote
imported_Cassie Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I would have my dog looked at by a vet...any new behaviors which are not normal for my dog, I have them looked at. It could be some thing simple for instance perhaps your dog cannot express his own anal glands...some dogs will scoot, some will try to bite at their rear end...some will lick the anal area...it could also be an indication of parasites...etc. etc. I would have it looked at just in case. courtnek Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 dont worry about it - mine have all chased their tails and eventually stop doing it Quote
Taurus and Jada Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 :D Jada does the same thing. And you're right it is rather amuzing. If we have friends over, they all think its quite funny. The strange thing that Jada does is she'll chse her tail, but because her tail is so long, she gets in a complete "U" when she is chasing it, and she will often be able to grab the end of her tail with her mouth..... and she will still keep turning, WITH HER TAIL IN HER MOUTH  My husband thinks that means she isn't smart? ( I just tell him to shut up at this point) :P Quote
Aonir Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 My cats chase their tail... Sometimes, Clyde will move his tail and hit himself, then he turns around hissing and dont know where the culprit is! :o Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 see here's the thing, she always just wants to bite her tail or grab it and run while hanging onto it, she never seems like she's trying to clean herself or anything. and she's always got this goofy smile and her tails wags the whole time she is trying to chase it :) she's crazy :) i have the feeling it's one of her new tactics for entertaining herself.....better than some of the others she's tried... so as long as she's just smiling and goofy it's fine but if she starts looking like she is trying to uh, fix something then worry about it..... THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP :) Quote
