Guest Mutts4Me Posted March 13, 2004 Posted March 13, 2004 Today was a very exciting day. First, I drove out to a Big Cat refuge half an hour from me. That was a big enough feat, because I'm not so big on driving (22 and have a car, yet don't drive). Then I spent a long time sorting through tubs of raw meat (I don't normally touch it) to feed the Cats. Then we fed the Cats, which was amazing to see (we don't get to touch yet, but I looked a Tiger in the eyes with 3' between us- and a fence). We went to Petsmart afterwards, and WHOA. Friday night must be Big Dog socializing day or something, because the place was swimming with Big Dogs, and there was a play area, which I just stared and watched. Then I noticed we're standing next to a Rottweiler. I said something to my friend, who looked dog, looked up, and said "Okay, I'm leaving now." I mentally shouted NO, and then instead of following her, I turned to the woman with the Rottweiler and asked if I could pet it. She said I could, so I did, and we got to talking (about fearing the breed). My friend was just standing there not sure what to do, and finally she reached over and lightly petted the dog on her back. The dog looked back at her, tongue lolling, with a huge smile, but my friend just saw teeth, yanked her hand back, and said "Sorry!" I laughed at her and said that she was happy, not wanting an apology. So she reached out and pet her some more. Mission accomplished, I thanked the woman for letting me pet her dog (never letting on that my mission was not really to face my fears, but to have my friend face hers). My friend was very weirded out, but at the same time exhilerated at having pet a Rottweiler :) Later when we were looking at fish, the same Rottweiler came right to us, which startled my friend, but she recovered quickly and pet it... while the owner laughed that she must remember us (really, I think we may have smelled like raw meat, but...) Oh yeah... I got to pet a boxer puppy and the cutest little Pit Bull, too :) Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 That's awsome! Good for you for getting your friend to face her fears!! :D I know a lady who owns a kennel and she has this big rottie named Harly, he is so awsome! Every time I go there he comes running up and leans right against me drooling everywhere, I end up going home covered in dog hair, drool, and half his breakfast  *yuck* but it's worth it, he's a great dog! Although almost always knocks me over when he leans on me cuz he's so big! Quote
