Guest Anonymous Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 I am so excited, we go and pick up the new guy from the airport tomorrow. I am so anxious. today is really dragging. i just talked to the breeder he is getting the flight and vet check all done right now and then we are going to get him in the morning. No, still havent chosen a name. my girlfrien will choose his call name, i am choosing his registered name.. it will be Harrison's Mighty D-Block. after the weird neccesity of his name to start with a D (from my girl-friend) and because my brother keeps calling him a block head. so we got D and then Block.... D-Block. I think she is waiting to get him to name him, our last two were that way and she says that he shouldnt be any different. just had to share my enthusiasm. of course there will be TONS of pics to come. Guest Anonymous Posted March 14, 2004 Posted March 14, 2004 What a great puppy! So much excitement when he first arrived. I introed the dogs one at a time, to maximize the control and minimize the "lets jump the new guy mentality". It5 went great they played and wrestled, but pretty gently. Diallo (thats going to be his name; pronounced as DEE-AH-LOW) just had his ears done a few days ago so they are still pretty itchy and tender. He doesnt seem to be in any pain but he wants to scrath them, I bought some vitamin E gel caps and put taht one in the mornings and at night. He has really big feet- But then again he will probably be a pretty big dog. Here are the pics I promised: Diallo sitting with a tough dog collar... Drey and Diallo getting aqauinted... More playing.. "are you sure your a puppy?" Deja's Turn... "What is up with your ears?" I think he likes her.... So far the seas have been very calm, the dogs get along great. Aside from a bout of whinning last night, Diallo is adjusting well. No leash manners as yet, he does a great mule immitaion when you try to walk him with one, but we are already working on that too. ebkelsey Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Very nice pics he is beautiful, jus wonderin how old is Diallo. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Yes, I'm wondering how old he is too cuz he's HUGE! Much bigger then I thought he would be! He looks *as my friend Tony the Tiger would say* GRRRRRRRRRRRREAT! :D I love his colar! :D I want to get one for Coal hehe, people would think I'm nuts on the sterotypical side though cuz he's a lab   He deffently looks like he's guna be a VERY big dog! :D I'm wondering about Deja's ears... last I seen they were rather floppy, in those pics their like straight up!! :o Are they just crazy ears that are constantly different? :) Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 he is a big boy congratulations on your new addition  Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Thanks to everyone. As far as Diallos age, it shook me when he told me.... 15 weeks. I had no idea he was this big. The first thing taht popped into my head was his hips.. Bigger dogs are more proned to displaysia arent they? As far as his weight 38 lbs. he is rather gangly though so i wouldt say he is over fed at all, but i dont know. He is a very happy and active puppy, but still very sleepy most of the time. He gets really active and tries to wrestle the other dogs now, they are doing pretty good all out together inside. over all I would say he is a pretty nice dog, though WAAYYYYYYYY outside of the standard for his breed. But still a great personality and I am really anxious to get to know him better. Not really interested in Tug, he will chase a ball.... but wont pick it up. He just runs to where it stops, sniffs it, and then comes running back to you. I forgot how much fun (and frustration) a puppy can be. Quote
kendalyn Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Yeah, he's really big for 15 weeks! How were his parent's hips? I'll bet you guys are having a ball :) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 Cute pup, but it looks like they took too much ear off in the crop. Are the pics just not showing right? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 His parents where never hip tested, I mean they are both fine I have seen most of the dogs in the first 3 generations of his pedigree. They are all okay but thats not the same as having them tested. He will have his done at two years of age, thats for sure. I have been totally ambushed by most of the boards I am on because he is blue, or because I bought a dog and didnt rescue, or because his parents werent pointed, and didnt have thier hips done. For whatever reason, I am just glad that I am not getting that here. I of course know all of the BYB stuff and I agree with it. I bought this dog pretty much for one reason, I saw his little face and fell in love. I know that is a considered to be a blow against the breed of some kind. because i am "lining the pockets of BYBers" or something like that. While i do admit that a good breeder does do thse things, not all breeders do. A lot of old time APBT breeders dont do testing like that. some of them dont even use pedigrees. I was very careful when i got into this dog because of the lack of testing. I did research into the pedigree sires and dams as far back as i could find, past litters and siblings when possible. I was comfortable with the guy, and the info i found of the dogs was good enough for me to go ahead and get him. While I do not consider him a BYB from what I consider a BYB to be, I do know that some people would still say he is. I still love this little guy. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 RnP, I know you wouldn't get the little guy if you thought you were harming the breed in any way! He may not be perfect when it comes to breed standards, but he's perfect when it comes to your standards right? Quote
StarFox Posted March 15, 2004 Posted March 15, 2004 :o That is a puppy?! Holy Moley that is gunna be one HUGE dog! I'm glad he is getting along so well with your other dogs! :P Quote
