Guest Anonymous Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 This is my first time here... So bare with me. I have a 1 1/2 yr old Pug. Wonderful dog, very loving and always happy to see me. He's semi-house trained. He will "go" on his Doggie pads during the day when I'm not home. However lately, has has started marking his territory around the house. Specifically on couches, and this morning, he lifted his leg on my briefcase!! What can I do to get him out of this habit? I need help... He is neutered, but was not crate trained. He has access to the whole house while I'm not home, however I've restricted access to the living room and bedrooms. Quote
DogPaddle Posted March 12, 2004 Posted March 12, 2004 Pugsley - Nice to see you here. Sorry you are having such problems. Re-training can be so challenging. K is probably on the right track though, what if anything has changed? Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Nothing has changed within the house... There's a cat, however he's always been there since Pugsley was brought into the house. I've read that this could be separation anxiety. I'm going to try the following steps: - Section him off to the kitchen during the day while I'm at work. (10ftx10ft room) - Use an enzmatic cleaner on marked areas (like Nature's Miracle) - Keep him on a short leash when I'm not able to pay complete attention to him while in the same room... - Take him more often for walks. Am I taking the right steps here? Is there something I'm forgetting? Thank you all for the help. It's really appreciated. Quote
kendalyn Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Sounds like a good plan! Hope it works out for you :-) Quote
DogPaddle Posted March 19, 2004 Posted March 19, 2004 Pugsley it sounds like you are doing everything right. Some dogs are just more challenging than others. You could look at crate training if your current methods don't produce results. You may also want to pop into the vets to ensure there are no infections. My mum's dog started urinating in the house when she got bladder infections. Quote
