Guest Anonymous Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Hi everyone, I hope you guys can help me! I have a Collie X and her name is Lara. I got her when she was 4 months old from the pound, and now she is about 8-9 months. I have done all her basic training, house training and things like that. But there is one problem I can't figure out how to solve! Lara has been housetrained but will only go outside when the door is open to outside. If it is cold and we shut the door she will not tell us that she needs to go. I take her out every hour or so, but sometimes this is not enough, or too long. I know that dogs each have their own unique way of telling their family that they need to use the bathroom. As far as I can deduct, Lara paces a little, but the problem is that she is young and hyperactive and paces often anyway! She has only had a handful of accidents in the house since I got her, but how can I teach her to tell/show me she needs to go outside or is this even possible?! I would appreciate any suggests or advice that i could get! Sorry if this is a stupid question but I need the help! Thank you!!! :D Quote
Queen Bitch Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 Another member here ( though I can't remember who it is right now, maybe Pumkinthe musher?) taught thier dog to tell them that it wantedout by ringing a bell that was hanging on the door. I'm not sure how though. Quote
Malamum Posted February 23, 2004 Posted February 23, 2004 I know it's not the answer you were looking for but we installed a dog door that way our dog can come in and out as he pleases. The only accident we have ever had was him vomiting inside - he tried to get outside but didn't make it. Quote
DogPaddle Posted February 24, 2004 Posted February 24, 2004 Tricky problem: You could try to say the same thing everytime you let her out, very excitedly. She should start to react, watch how she reacts, she will probably develop a pattern, eventually she may proactively react the same way if she needs to go out without you prompting. Quote
