One of my fellow rescuers has had an outbreak of ringworm in her home and is having a tough time getting rid of it. Because my new kitten is among those affected (one of his littermates has a spot), I've offered to foster that litter of three kittens. We can isolate them more easily than she can, as we have a somewhat larger house and two spare rooms that are rarely used.

Anyone have any advice? I'm planning on isolating them in one room and keeping them in there for two-three weeks after they've tested negative. I'm going to change my clothes and wash my hands every time after I go in to see them. I also plan on steam-cleaning the room afterward.

IMO Tea Tree Oil is the best medicine for ringworm! As well as ear mites and other skin irritations.

They were dipped earlier today and are supposed to be dipped again next week. Right now, only one has a spot -- just a little one on his face. I'm currently swabbing it with vinegar. It was the only home remedy I found online that didn't sound like it would do more harm than good!

When Tessa had ring worm the vet gave us oral medication for it and told us to dab the spots with mixture of betadine and metho twice a day.

Lucky for Tess it worked, but it took me years to get rid of it!!! Every time I hear the word my whole body shudders at the thought of it!!! I think I took enough ringworm medication that it will be in my system for the next 20+ years! Thank god it went away and I hope to god it never comes back :o

IF people get it, just one spot, it can, and usually does, go away on it's own. if it's just one spot on an animal, same deal. BUT if it's an actual infestation, i beleive you need vet help. Also, if you develop ringworm, but it takes place on the scalp instead of the skin, it's not "regular" ring worm and needs to be seen by a dermatologist.
