Oh where to start..Ok about a month ago I noticed that I could see Zebra's breath. Just like you can see your own when it's cold outside. Except I could see his breath INSIDE! :o Ok it does NOT get that cold in my house! I live in Los Angeles for crying out loud, it bearly rains here! I would say that the house is anywhere from 60-70 degreese at night.

At first I thought I was seeing things then my dad and my mom saw it too. It's not that cold in my own house that his breath could be seen! So what is it? Am i just going insane, i'm starting to think so.

No, your not insane!
If the temperature in your home is a few degree cooler than the body temperature of your dog...the hot air coming from your dog will cause a warmer temp. to hit a colder temp and cause that fog...if that makes any sense...
The best example I can give is with lakes etc. during the day under the sun the bodies of water warm up slightly...it takes alot longer for the water to cool off during the night...of course the night air is chilly without the sun...every morning when I go out for a walk in the summer you can see the land fog from all the lakes...it looks so mysterious.

It must be nice to live in Calafornia...here in NB, Canada it is currently
-23 celsius with a wind chill of -40...I don't know what that is in fahrenheit...in the States you guys still go by fahrenheit...dont you?

I believe that it has to do with the dogs' physiology and the fact that they don't sweat, they cool down by panting. This means that generally they exhale a much warmer breath than humans.

This past summer we took Miles to a park on a hot day. He was dog tired when we got back in the car and stuck his face right in the blowing air conditioner vent. Sure enough, his breath was coming out clear as day, just as if we were walking outside in frigid temps. Like now!

*breathes a sigh of relief* I'm not insane! I thought it probably had to do something with the dogs body temp but I just wasn't sure.

Jeff- I'm about 5 miles outside of Pasadena. Runyon Canyon? Nope don't think i've ever been there. Where is it located.

Hey Starfox-
Runyon Canyon is a huuuuuge dog park located in the Hollywood Hills. It sits on over 25 acres of land. The bottom part of the park is on-leash. As you hike up, it is off-leash. Here is a pic of my girlfriend, and a couple of her friends after walking up maybe 20% of the way to the top. It is amazing. On a clear day you can see from Dodger Stadium to the Pacific Ocean. I dunno if you are familiar w/ Hollywood, but to get there you just go north up Fuller Ave. Fuller is located a couple blocks west of La Brea Ave.

  you Can NOT complain about cold to me missy! Here in the good ol' Fort, we've been stuck in an ice age for about 4... maybe 5 days now... I think it lasted about that long, and each day was about 40 below (Celcious)! and that's not just WIND CHILLS, that's how cold it was! ALL busses didn't start running until TODAY at school, and the past two days have warmed up and we've been BLESSED with the temp of ONE DEGREES CELCIOUS :o

oh pppfffttt Shara

1 degree Celcius is 33 farenheit...a HEAT WAVE for this part of town.

we've been living with 10 and 15 below for three days....and that's farenheit...
