I suppose by now this is old news and I apologise if it's already been posted:

One of the Queen's corgis has been killed by an English bull terrier owned by Princess Anne.

The Queen was said to be "absolutely devastated" over the death of Pharos after he was savaged by Dottie, according to The Sun newspaper.

Just last year Princess Anne was fined after Dottie attacked two children in Windsor Great Park.

Buckingham Palace refused to comment on the alleged incident, which was said to have happened on Tuesday (AEST) as the royal family gathered for Christmas at Sandringham in Norfolk.

Anne arrived with Dottie and as the door was opened by a servant the Queen's corgi raced down to greet her, the newspaper reported.

The bull terrier then attacked Pharos, injuring the corgi's legs.

He was treated by royal vets and kept in intensive care but had to be put down.

The Sun quoted a royal insider as saying: "His death has left her deeply saddened. Everyone knows what the corgis mean to her. They are loyal, faithful and cherished.

"The incident has certainly put a damper on the Christmas holiday. It's terrible and everyone at Sandringham is very upset."

It is a tricky one for me personally to decide what should have been done in *both* cases. Any dog that shows human aggression really needs to be dealt with appropriately; granted it wasn't a maiming but still the dog attacked *people* which is absolutely not cool, and now it has savaged another dog so badly it needed to be pts. :(
I really wonder about a few things- was the dog actually dealt with re: its human aggression, did the Princess receive preferential treatment despite her protestations (imagine if it were your bull terrier that attacked two children, or mauled another dog to death?), if it were a different breed of dog (eg. a stereotypically "friendly" dog like a Lab) would it have made international headlines, I wonder if there is something neurologically wrong with the dog or it just hadn't been trained correctly.... what do you guys think?
If it were my dog I would have done some drastic retraining after the first incident (assuming that my dog hadn't been destroyed already). After the second incident I think I would have my dog destroyed voluntarily, if not forced to by the law. Attacking children is bad enough but killing another dog... how could I ever trust it again? :(

Disclaimer: I adore bull terriers, lived next door to one when I was younger, and think they are fantastic. :D

I doubt very much that Princess Ann did any training with the dog. And yes, it should have been looked into after the children incident, but Royalty (and Presidents, and Ministers, and Governments) all have a lot more clout than the average Joe...the only reason it got these kind of headlines is because it was the Queen's dog....and the Queen was PO'd about it. Her dog probably got very little training as well...and she doesnt seem to get along real well with her family and in-laws anyway, if the news is to be believed...which often it isnt....

I dont believe people in power should have more rights than anyone else.
If it was you or me, the dog would have been taken away after the incident
with the children.

[quote name='gooeydog']There was a different article posted on another board, that said the Corgi had a poor temperament as well, and had bitten several staff members.

It actually say "the Corgis," not that specific Corgi... But I agree with the article in that we don't know what happened. If the Corgi saw another dog enter its territory, it may have reacted agressively, causing a fight. One night a couple years ago, I went over to my neighbor's house and stupidly took the dog outside with me, asking her to stay at the property line. Well, she didn't, and when my neighbor answered the door, their beagle saw Sasha and charged at her, causing a big fight. I jumped in and pulled them apart, and no one had been injured, luckily.

Those dogs can be out in their respective backyards, with only a few feet between them, and they'll behave (even though they don't like each other) because each dog is in their own territory. But in that one moment, when the beagle was startled by the sight of Sasha (who'd only meant to tag along behind me), all heck broke loose. Something horrible could have happened that night if I hadn't thrown myself blind onto a dogfight. And I would have felt horrible, absolutely devastated, if my dog had injured, let alone killed, that beagle (even though I don't like her, either). So I feel bad for both Queen Elizabeth and Princess Anne :(

You're right, I misread that (two times  ). I didn't mean to imply that what happened was "ok" either, simply that there may have been more to the story than was being let out

The Princess Royal's English bull terrier has been cleared of mauling one of the Queen's corgis.

It was thought that Dotty was responsible for the attack which resulted in it being put down.

However another of her daughter's pets has been identified as the culprit according to the Daily Mail.

The RSPCA reportedly called for Dotty to be put down following the incident as this was the second time it had attacked.

Thirteen months ago the Princess Royal became the first member of the Royal Family to get a criminal record when she was fined
