courtnek Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 I walked Freebee and Laurel (half Lab/Pointer) and Laurel (purebred foxhouond... Someone on the sidewalk actually YELLED at me because he thought Laurel was "part Pit".... went off on how dangerous she was, how she should be shot, how could I ever trust her? so I said, and emailed it to the various different reporters and newspapers that call Pits vicious... "LAUREL is a PUREBRED Foxhound. She has no Pit in her, and the only real resemblance is a slight coloring sameness. Her colors are sometimes seen in Pit MIXES, but she is a HOUND!... She would not go near him, she is timid, as most you know...he used that as a reason for her being part Pit... "See? she doesnt like people..." NOT ALL DOGS DO!! My Lab wouldnt go near him either, she growled..I think he was Christmas drunk... He apparently was able to ignore Freebee growling (she looks like a Lab) and centered on Laurel, because she was growling in fear. Tail tucked, she was completely quiet until he started yelling...then she backed behind me and growled in fear....and he said she was a 'VICIOUS PIT MIX...." I basically told him he would not know a Pit from a chihauhau... and that SHE had no Pit in her at all. and maybe he better not run off at the mouth since he doesn't know what he is talking about.. and he, in his drunken stupid state, says 'I WILL TELL EVERYONE YOU HAVE A PIT MIX AND SHE'S DANGEROUS!!!!" \ and I said, 'go ahead, and when it is proven she is NOT...I will take you to to court on HARRASSMENT charges..and DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER!" he stumbled down the sidewalk, muttering...and I calld the police. In THIS state, he is a danger to himself and others... :drinking: Quote

Girl, you've had quite a time with people. It's like you have some sort of beacon that they just home in on. I wouldn't worry too much about this guy. He can say whatever he wants. Think about it like this.... if he's that big a lunatic, not too many people are likely to take him seriously and those who do aren't really worth worrying about. Chances are he won't even remember it in the morning. Quote
Rowie-the-Pooh Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Urgh, what a horrible, rude man! :x Irgnore him, Court, just like HF said, he might not remember it in the morning! (Hey, you can come live with ME if you like! ) Quote
Sanvean Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 Yikes! Frankly, I wouldn't have been sorry to hear she HAD bitten him! Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 26, 2003 Posted December 26, 2003 It's me Courtnek... HF, I live in a small City outside of Chicago, and yea, we have all kinds here. I agree he probably wont remember it today, he was stoned stupid drunk, but I guess I just needed to vent... Quote

The guy wasnt homeless, he just walked to Jewel for his grocereis because he needed the exercise..doctors orders he get exercise..and this guy assaulted him.... people are SOOOO weird.. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 Oh what an idiot! Glad you stood up for your pooches and the common folk around your area and called the police! I HATE people like that. I remember, at the hospital there was this one guy, he wasn't drunk, but had mental problems, but I still couldn't believe how blastedly rude he was! Kept shouting to my sisters friend how he was a descrase to the public, asked if he had something pierced in his ass too  (Kat's friend is a total punker, got tones of piercings and a skin head, and tatts, he's real nice though) ARG, I just HATE rude people! I don't care HOW drunk you are, it's just not right! mouseatthebusstop Posted December 28, 2003 Posted December 28, 2003 he's in the right place now with the police Quote
Marble Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 good grief, what a dummy. glad you called the police, sounds like some of the people my dad worked with in the federal mental hospital in DC... Quote
JudyHoffman Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Getting mad at a drunk serves no purpose! He probably forgot what he did/said within 5 minutes of saying it! He's a sick man with a disease called alcoholism. Pity him, don't be mad at his rantings. Even manic-depressives, people with ADD and other mental illnesses can and do act the same. Your dogs reaction to him to does not surprise me in the least. Most dogs do not like the body movements/posture of drunks or mental disturbed people. I wouldn't be concerned. If it happens again, just say "Let's go" and continue on your walk with a happy bounce in your step and lightness to your voice. Quote
imported_Cassie Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I lived with a drunk for 13 years...it was no treat!! he was unpredictable and scary at times...some nights he would stumble through the door after the taverns had closed angry at the world...I locked myself and my dogs into a bedroom while he tore when he was sober, he was the sweetest, most caring man you would ever want to meet...he would do any thing for me and his kids and the dogs. There were other times he would come home drunk and be lovely dovy...he would try to curl up with the dogs on the floor and pet them and tell them he loved them....my dogs were tolerant of him when he was drunk, but, they were always wary. I spent 13 years trying to get him to stop drinking, but, he had some problems only he knew about which he could not deal with...his excuse for getting drunk was he needed to escape reality, and he didn't like himself...only a drunk can make himself stop drinking...even AA couldn't help him on his road to destruction. Court, don't feel bad..not every one knows their breeds...sober or drunk...When I have my Newfoundland dogs out for a walk I have had people yell at me for having black bears in public, mothers upset and grabbing their children to get to safety...now, I find this very embarressing as the people are not even getting the species of my dogs right! I mean really....black bears?? why would I be walking down the street with 4 black bears and a Rottweiler??? I just laugh, and I don't try to explain myself...let them make fools of themselves. imported_Leanne Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Can you imagine him if he went to watch the greyhounds race. He'd probably say there not greyhounds there great daines or somethink stupid like that. Idiot! Quote
midori115 Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 Jerks. I was walking Oscar in the park yesterday and Oscar was doing his bouncing-along-and-barking-at-squirrells routine .... well this man came over to me and started yelling at me that my vicious pit bull should be muzzled in public. and if he got bitten he was going to shoot my dog and have me arrested. Now, when he first turned in our direction, Oscar saw him and laid down and wagged his tail... who could think this pup needs to be muzzled???? oh, please. Quote
midori115 Posted December 29, 2003 Posted December 29, 2003 I think I told him something to that effect -- and then Oscar and I went home. I can't stand those people, but they are everywhere! Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 Hehe, I joke all the time when I see newfs that they look like cuddley bears  but I would never seriously mistake one for a bear!! :WTF: :wallbash: Arg, ignorence is NOT a bliss... Quote

Guest Anonymous Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 We use to have this dog down the road, that seriously looked a LOT like a bear around here. (oh, his name was even something like "little bear" or something along those lines, I can't remember). When going for a walk I'd see him and I'd be standing there staring down the road squinting to see if this was worth disrupting my walk, or if it was just the dog. But between a newf, and that bear pic you posted... other then the fact their black, I can't see much of a resemblence :o Quote
Holz_Boomer Posted January 1, 2004 Posted January 1, 2004 What A Rude Man!!! But I Dont Get It..Even IF Laurel WAS A Pittie..Does That Mean He Would Be Vicious? No WaY!! I Mean Pleaseeee, As If!! Pit's are Just Stereotyped..which REALLY sux cuz i've never met one that was vicious..and like..a small lil dog like a lhasa apso could do just as much harm as any other dog, for instance, a pit!! u know wat i mean? People used to get mad thinking that our ol' mutt (he had died b4 i was born) Sam was a WOLF :o ..he looked nothing like one! And in the pics..he always looked sooo calm and sooo sweet...but he got run over (by someone i know) and that was the end  Quote
courtnek Posted January 1, 2004 Author Posted January 1, 2004 I took a fright one day when in Pennsylvania. There was a dog running loose around the hotel who, from my window, I would have sworn was a wolf. It was black and grey and brown, pointed ears, bushy tail... turned out it was a shepherd/huskie mix, and the mix was so wolf-like it was incredible. It turned out that even though off leash, he was going to his owners car and waited there for him. I talked to the guy later, and he said that everyone thought his dog was a wolf...even the vet the first time he brought him in. I suggested that maybe he should keep him on a leash, so someone didnt shoot him thinking he WAS a wolf...the likeness was just eerie.... but no, the Newfie really doesnt resemble the black bear much....  Quote
