Mutt_Lady Posted June 17, 2004 Posted June 17, 2004 Kyra sleeps on the bed with me and Kevin, even though it is usually a very tight squeeze. Actually, I find if Kyra isn't at my feet, I have trouble sleeping. I guess I'm just weird.. Quote
Cairn6 Posted June 19, 2004 Posted June 19, 2004 On an off topic subject, Kiwi,I can't even tell you how much this picture is killing me. I want to hug this little guy so bad!! On topic they all sleep on the bed. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 17, 2004 Posted November 17, 2004 eric napisaĆ(a):Ok, I keep reading and hearing about how letting your dog(s) sleep on the bed is really bad and will cause all sorts of dominance problems. However, we have always let our dogs sleep on the bed, and have never had any issues. In fact, we got a king size bed a few years ago so we could all fit on comfortably. I think that I would really miss it if the boys didn't sleep with us on the bed. i have 3 labs and they sleep on my bed. i have never seen any sign of dominance from them. however i do see it from my husband when they take over his side. :D Quote
Kerislc Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 My dog knows that as soon as my husband's alarm goes off, he is allowed to jump up on the bed. He lays a the foot of the bed until my husband gets up (he always pushed snooze twice) and then Scout knows he can come cuddle with me. It is so funny though, because he comes up and gets under the covers and lays his head on my pillow, usually on his back, like me. We should have named him Pinochio (sp?) because he thinks he is "a real boy" :D . Quote
3ofakind Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 I have to give you all that let them in the bed a lot of credit. I just can't do it. When it was just Mary it was great, when it was Stewie and Mary it was tolerable, but when Finny came it was just tooo much. I toss and turn and they would pin me down in the worst positions! I was super crabby those first few months. They all sleep together in one big crate now. They dont object and go right in on command. We have cuddles before bedtime and in the morning. I think the dominance thing only applies to overly dominant dogs. If you are having a dominance struggle, it is something to consider. If it is not a problem for you dont worry about it. Quote
ObedienceGrrl Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Tater sleeps in the bed....under the covers with his head on the pillow! He really wants to sleep between Jeremy and myself....but Jer says, "Ya know....I'd like to touch my wife at night....not a hairless dog!" So Tater gets to sleep on my left now. Hunter and Dakota sleep on the floor on their blankies. But when Jeremy goes out of town, they can come up in bed if they want to. The two older cats sleep on the bed, but the kitten sleeps with the GSDs on the floor. Quote
Spike Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 My hairless babies sleep w/ me. Wouldn't have it any other way. Spikey sleeps on the pillow like a person and Foxy sleeps ontop of Spikey. Than the kids start crawling in through out the night. The way the 2 kids grow we are gettin pretty crowded. Don't know if a king size will cut it before 2 long. Quote
ObedienceGrrl Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 We have a California King..... There just isn't room anymore!!! Quote
Spike Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 Yeah they definately fill up fast, those 2 little things are so....I guess u would say......emotional.. Pretty sure they would be quite..... the bawl babies we would say. Not too many dominance issues really with them but they know how to look pretty sad when they want to. Might have me buffaloed a little bit. Especially the little boy. Quote
CincoandDahlilasgirl Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 My parents let Dahlila sleep in bed with them and I let cinco sleep in bed with me (he's usaly between the bed and the floor in my room) :fadein: Quote
AllAmericanPUP Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 how could i not let them sleep in the bed!! i do NOT sleep well if i dont have a dog or cat in the bed with me. Quote
DogPaddle Posted December 28, 2004 Posted December 28, 2004 I just got a brand new bed, and am reallllly enjoying it. The boys aren't allowed to play on the bed and they only come up for about 10-15 min before I fall asleep and 10 min in the morning and then they have to be on their blanket. Its been 3 years since I insisted on a bed to myself and I kinda like it. I may relent later though. For now I have made the boys each their own bed - 10 inch thick fairly dense foam block, easily large enough for them covered in washable material. They actually seem to like them a fair amount although they insist on swapping beds and Kavik's is a little small for Zaphod. Quote
Aussie_Chick Posted January 6, 2005 Posted January 6, 2005 I definately let them sleep on my bed.Although the kelpies dont sleep on the bed, they actually prefer to sleep together in the lounge room! :-? With the other 5 luck decides who sleeps with us,as the bed isn't big enough for me,my boyfriend and 5 dogs.Whoever gets there first sleeps with me,3 is the limit,no more will fit. They all know who the boss is and will get off the bed if I even look at them the wrong way :) Quote

Sounds like you and Dex were made for each other. Give me your address and I'll ship Dex to you.   He always bogarts any warm spot on the couch or bed. If Christine or I get off the couch, you can count on the fact that Dex will sneak up onto the warm area. He's a tricksy little hobbit. Um, to answer the original question, we sometimes let Dex sleep on the bed. He is just too much of a hog, always stretching his legs, so we only let him sleep if its a quick nap for an hour or two. He used to try to sneak onto the bed in the middle of the night. Kira does not like sleeping, or even getting on the bed for that matter. She gets hot quickly, and does not like body heat all up on her. In fact, she prefers the coolest area of the room or house. Quote

Peanut likes to sleep all over me, on my chest if i'm on my back, on my legs if I'm on my stomach, draped over my waist if I'm on my side. If I set him off of me, he will cuddle into my side. Pixie will sleep on me for a little bit, but I think she gets hot too. Luckily (for the dogs, not for me! ) there is plenty of extra room in my bed for sleeping wherever they want to. Peanut and Pixie definitely always get to sleep in my bed. I actually got a set of steps from Target so that they can get up to the bed by themselves. That way if I'm in bed and they hear something and jump of to give a little warning Wuff, I don't have to pick them back up onto the bed. They both learned how to use the steps this week, YAY! Quote
ShatteringGlass Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Sydney only sleeps on the bed with me once in a while, and If I am going to let her on the bed, I make her sit and wait, then I get on the bed and get comfortable, then I say "OK" and let her on the bed. I just don't want her thinking it's her bed and that she can just jump on any time she wants :D Quote
ObedienceGrrl Posted February 8, 2005 Posted February 8, 2005 Just the naked dogs sleep on the bed. Under the covers of course! Come on....they have no hair!! They get cold!! We also have 2 out of the 3 cats on the bed too. The GSDs are just too much to add to that! Quote
Ash Posted March 15, 2005 Posted March 15, 2005 I let Smokie on my bed at my parents house, they don't let them on theirs. Even though he's sneaky, and gets up on the couch and bed when they leave. He's very smart. He even puts his head on a pillow.. lol! Seriously though he has no problem listening to commands as long as they are from a member of my family, or somebody that has a treat.. lol ! thornbirdskkk Posted April 19, 2005 Posted April 19, 2005 I have two labs and they have full rein of my bed. They sleep with my husband and I am on the couch!! My husband is always telling me to kick them off, but I can't they are used to being close to us, especially my chocolate lab, who goes as far as lying his head on your neck!! I love it!! Quote
JackieMaya Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 If my dogs want to sleep with me, they're more than welcome. In fact, THEY are my alarm clock. They ALL climb in bed with me (usually on top of me) to wake me up in the morning. Quote
Bubblezzz Posted May 30, 2005 Posted May 30, 2005 No for me, mostly because Cosmic kicks. And also because he has no qualms about stepping ON us - not the best way to wake up! Quote
