Sanvean Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Oh my gosh! The front desk at the paper just called up and said someone had found a dog, and she was in the lobby, and could I help? She appears to be a lab-husky or lab-shepherd mix, maybe not quite full grown. One of the reporters, Sharon, had found her running around a busy street downtown. She has a collar on (no tag) and seems well-fed...her nails are clipped, her coat seems clean and she sat and laid down on command. Sharon is going to take her home for now, and I put an ad in the paper and am going to make up posters. The photo chief was nice enough to take photos of her for the posters! Isn't she cute?! Any advice on how to weed out people who call about her who might be pretending to be her owner? Quote
pei obssessed Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 she is beautiful... you can ask them her name and see if she answers to that  also ask them to describe her nose--the colour, that is. the owner should know that she has that lighter line in the middle and her nostrils are black on the side... don't have any other ideas. Rowie-the-Pooh Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Wow, she's such a pretty dog! :o I agree, when I saw her pics, the first thing I thought of was a sheperd/husky mix! I'm not sure about how to weed out people who might pretend to be her owners..... but have you checked for a microchip? I think your instincts will tell you who the real owners is. Maybe you could ask them questions only a real owner could answer (i.g "where does she like to be tickled?" "was she from a shelter?") stuff like that. You usually can tell if a person is lying! But really, wow! Your such an angel for helping the poor darling out! She doesn't really look scared, but I'm sure she was before you angels helped her out! :lilangel: Way to go and keep us updated ! :D Quote
ellieangel Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 What a beauty :) I hope she gets claimed :( Quote
Aonir Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 She's so pretty! First, are you going to make it Color or black & white? If black & white, then the nose thing will be a good idea. Also ask about the collar color. Also ask if the nails has been trimmed. And make something up, like if she has a bald spot somehwere.. or if shes blind. Just throw something out. Be wary, someone can call twice and take the correct info and throw it at you. Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Aww, how sweet :) I'd go with Rowie and say husky/shepherd. Good luck finding her owners. If I was still there, I'd offer to flyer MSU for ya ;) Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 she's GORGOUS! If no one claims her, I'll take her!   as for weeding out the peoples, everyone gave ya great suggestions. Black and white photo would be best, so you can ask colors and stuff like that! Good luck! Quote
courtnek Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Sanvean did anyone call the police? Usually people report their lost dogs to the police or animal control.... Also, for identifiers, the name is a good idea, along with the nose, but also check and see if she has any scars, or healed wounds, anything like that that an owner would know right off the top. Definitely call the police and animal control - someone may have reported her missing. She is beautiful.... Quote
Sanvean Posted November 29, 2003 Author Posted November 29, 2003 All good ideas, you guys! Thanks :) We did call the humane society and animal control. I made posters today, which Sharon is going to put up in the area, and I put an ad in the paper, too. Quote
Guest Mutts4Me Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 You could also ask anyone who plans on picking the dog up to bring a couple pictures of their own of her... Because unless she's brand new, then people are likely to have at least one, if not hundreds :) Quote
Holz_Boomer Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 aw what a sweetie! yah, juss like everyone else said..i would just ask questions and stuff :D the picture idea is great! good thinking Mutts4Me! Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 She certainly is a beauty girl. Before you start with advertising, take her to your vet and get her scanned. Chances are she could be microchipped if she appears to be a well looked after dog. Quote
abker17 Posted November 29, 2003 Posted November 29, 2003 Woah she looks alot like Cracker! Cept' taller and not as poofy. Everyone has great suggestions, I hope she finds her family soon! :D Quote
Holz_Boomer Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 your absolutely right Kat..she may be microchipped, check it out  but did it look like she was "lost" or "abandonned"...if she was abandonned, i doubt she would be microchipped.. Just Like My Poor Ol' Boomer  Quote
Sanvean Posted November 30, 2003 Author Posted November 30, 2003 A lady called today about the dog! (Actually, she called three times -- I didn't hear my cell phone ringing!) She was overjoyed that we had found her dog and that she was safe. Apparently her husband had Maybelle (that's her name) out with him while he was working on the car, and while he wasn't paying attention, she wandered away. They were frantic and were very happy that she was OK. (They were also able to describe her collar and the odd coloration on her nose.) I gave her Sharon's number, so they are going to go to her house and get Maybelle :) Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Oh what a great result! Go  od for you Sanvean for trying and succeeding  Quote
