JackieMaya Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Well, my sweet little Jackie killed her third rabbit the other day. I was in the kitchen and heard a few barks, and then quiet. Jackie is such a natural hunter, and an incredible athlete it's just amazing. She had eaten about a third of the rabbit by the time I got out there to throw it in the garbage. Maya is too noisy to ever catch anything. And of course Jackie was keeping the rabbit just out of Maya's reach. Then of course, after eating fresh meat, she didn't want to eat her dry dog food for a few days. Goofy girl! Here's a picture of Jackie licking her chops: Quote
Malamum Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 I've got to say I'm glad we don't get any wildlife in our backyard. I know it's a natural thing for dogs to do but I get too upset if I see anything hurt or injured or especially killed. Though I think Indy would be too slow and clumsy to catch anything anyway. Quote
Guest Anonymous Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Good for her, but I'm glad Coal's too clumsy and loud to catch anything  Quote
Sanvean Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Macy was recently frightened by a rabbit in the back yard. (She also ran inside in fright after hearing some Canada geese honking overhead!) Quote
kendalyn Posted November 25, 2003 Posted November 25, 2003 Once Buck pounced right on top of a bunny, but I think it kind of scared him and he pounced off and the bunny ran away! I was glad :-) Quote
mouseatthebusstop Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 EEEEEEEKKKKKKK I would have freaked out :shocked!: Quote
courtnek Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 I can sympathize...Freebee has taken out rabbits, squirrels and the occasional field mouse, which she insists on bringing to ME as a gift.. (Gee, Girl, THANKS ALOT!!) Quote

We took them out to the pine forest and I was SO PROUD of my baby, she actually managed to catch something! And she brought it back to us, flopped it on the ground and just lay there with this amazingly proud look on her face (she'd have the biggest grin if it were possible!). Then, to our suprise Tessa also caught a rabbit!!! I was pretty happy they caught their own dinner!!! As most of you know I feed BARF so I was very happy that I could feed a fresh whole prey to them, I'm going to take them out more often now and hopefully they'll catch dinner on a regular basis! Oh, sorry to anyone who can't stand the thought of those poor little bunnys... they are a serious pest here and there is nothing more natural than a dog killing its own food  Quote
iceyshiver21 Posted November 27, 2003 Posted November 27, 2003 We have to train all our dogs not to hunt rabbits. Because we show them. Quote
