courtnek Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 you wouldnt think I'd have to move the WHOLE WORLD just to get a rabies tag!!! I sent the rabies certificate to Kane County, with a check, for a rabies tag for Laurel. They dont give out tags when they vaccinate en masse in the kennels, just certificates.. so I sent the certificate, and a check..they LOST it..so now I have been calling the vet and saying "HELLO!! I need a new certificate to get a tag..." "well, we have to look into her vaccination records, make sure she was done properly..." HELLO!! if she wasnt done properly there would have been NO certificate in the first place..." "well, we still have to investigate...." "ok, we have records of her shots, but we cant send you a certificate without proof you adopted the dog.." IF I HADNT ADOPTED THE DOG WHY WOULD I CARE??????? "some people claim theY have adopted dogs that they havent adopted..." WHAT??????? so I fax the adoption papers.... "we cant read them they;re too light" so I give them the number of the lady I adopted her from... she calls me back and says..."oh well, I have to go home now. I'll look into it tomorrow..." !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO WONDER PEOPLE DONT ADOPY DOGS MORE READILY!!!!! Quote
kendalyn Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 Ugh, what a hassle. When we went to get Buck licensed they wanted to fine us for licensing and vaccinating him late because he was older than 3 months. We found him in the woods of Kentucky! We didn't even know he existed when he was 3 months old! That was really annoying. I hope you get the rabies thing all straightened out soon! All that red tape is no fun at all :-? Quote
imported_Kat Posted November 18, 2003 Posted November 18, 2003 What a total pain  I have to get Meg vaccinated for rabies soon if she is going to hopefully travel to Netherlands with me next year with her pets passport. She has never before had it but I'm hoping that everything will be ok! Quote
courtnek Posted November 19, 2003 Author Posted November 19, 2003 Kat, really? Forgive my obvious ignorance, but I really didnt know there was anywhere in the world where a rabies vaccination was not required.... that seems so strange to me!! Here, if you dont get them done every year (unless you get the two year shots) the county animal control people start sending you threatening notices, and they can take your pets away if you dont get them done. K - I think Maura (the foster mom) gave her an earful...She called me today and said 'everything was all straightened out and she would be mailing my certificates today". About that same time I got an email from Maura saying "Did she get this straightened out yet? we had some "words"...."apparently they send copies of the adoption papers to vet, so that they have records of the new owners....which makes sense since they're running a rescue society... My concern is that here in this city, the police have told me that if a dog escapes and is NOT wearing a rabies tag, they will not go out of their way to rescue it. They will not endanger their people trying to chase down a potentially rabid dog. So I want her tagged, just in case. Quote
bk_blue Posted November 19, 2003 Posted November 19, 2003 I am fairly sure Australia and NZ don't need to vaccinate dogs against rabies. Stupid bloody red tape!! What a pain. :x Quote
